Kevin Davies was one of the most effective strikers I've seen in the PL and I wouldn't call him a goalscorer.

Why's it crucial that he becomes a goalscorer? Could have won the first 2 PL games then from him not scoring.

Because it is usually what you want your center forwards to do.

For Big Sam's Bolton. Effective at what he did sure, not someone you would want to build your team around....unless you're Bolton and Big Sam.

To be fair, its not like he missed a couple of chances tonight, most of his work was down the channels and outside the box.

We wont know if he will ever be prolific but he's shown he can score. His protection of the ball is excellent for his age and his link play is very good - there's a lot for Koeman to work with.

That's true and indeed his running the channels helped him to set up Rooney for the goal. Agree with the rest, but if we're serious about breaking the top 6 this year we're going to need to hugely upgrade in that position in terms of goalscoring ability as it's infinitely more important over the course of a season, as we'd find out if we persevered with DCL as a first choice (unless of course there is a top goalscorer in him that we haven't seen yet).

Regular European qualifications weren't bad. Not saying build a team around DCL just saying if he's still contributing to assists and team goals then what difference does it make if he's not prolific? He's 20, he's got time.
