Do we really need that much?

Going with a 4-2-3-1 formation, I think a good manager could do a job with......

1. Pickford and Stek
2. Coleman and Kenny
3. New Signing and Baines
4. Holgate and Keane
5. New Signing and Funes Mori
6. New Signing and Gueye and McCarthy
8. New Signing and Davies and Beni
7. Walcott and Lookman
10. Sigurdsson and Vlasic
11. New Signing and Onyekuru
9. Tosun and DCL

You could sell / offload most of the others.
1. Robles
2. Martina
3. Jags
4. Williams
5. Schneiderlin
6. Besic
7. Mirallas
8. Klassen
9. Rooney
10. Sandro
11. Bolassie

Off the top of my head, 5 in 11 out would be what I'd like to see. That obviously won't happen though.

This really.

There are many many factors as to why a player may look crap one season and boss the next.

Players like Keane, Sigurdsson, Bolasie, Tosun, Holgate, Davies and Klaassen deserve a blank slate next season if they are given a second chance in a role and system that suits them. With the exception of Holgate and Davies, they have all had better form away from Everton. The reason is that they had a side and a manager capable of getting the best out of their players. We haven't had that but hopefully our manager next season will be able to instill that in the club.

Why’s Holgate in that list?

Depends what we want doesn't it? If we are happy to go for 7th, possibly pinch 6th spot then we don't need much at all. The absence of European football and a full season to bed in the squad and we will see improvements next year, especially if we can get a coach that isn't so awful. Especially as players like Kenny, Baningme, DCL and even Davies will have benefited from an extra year under their belts. Plus Seamus, Bolassie and Funes Mori will hopefully be fully fit and raring to go by September.

The challenge comes if we want to challenge for higher spots than that. You've seen with Liverpool this year how having a truly world class player lifts the whole squad (as it did when they had Suarez). We've really missed Lukaku in that sense and whilst Tosun has done admirably, he's probably never going to get to that level, and the young lad from Belgium has to be regarded as an unknown quantity.

Not much i would much prefer quality, 4 players:

Two central midfielders a no 8 and deep lying play maker,
Left sided Centre back,
A young covering left back.

Possibly a right sided winger but not essential.

You're adding 4-5 players minimum to a squad that hasn't yet settled from its last churning, it's a lot to ask, even if it's necessary.

Players required:
Left back
Center back

For the manager to sort:
Center forward
Passing midfielder
Left forward

Going to go full Zat here but it's an extremely slow day in the office and I'm tired of seeing a thousand threads pop up re: Allardyce. The title poses the question I want to ask the forum - do we really need many changes to the squad next season? Now I know we've been turgid to watch this season but a lot of that has been down to the system and also the poor form & confidence of the squad. Personally I don't want to see many incomings this summer as I think we're unsettled enough, it's a World Cup year and I honestly don't think we're far off. I'll dissect my reasoning below with the ultimate goal of improving but not having to spend like we did last year:

GOALKEEPER (2)

1: Pickford
2: New GK

Lowest priority out there so I don't mind heading into the new season with Joel (if he stays) or Stek. Out of the young lads only Hilton has looked half decent so he can be third. Lots of the academy keepers need binning like Gray, Hewelt etc. They will never make it here.

DEFENCE (9)

CB: RFM
CB: Keane
CB: Holgate
CB: New Starting CB
CB: Possibly Feeney/Gibson if one or neither gets a loan.

LB: New LB
LB: Robinson
RB: Coleman
RB: Kenny

I'd like to see Holgate given a starting chance next to either RFM or a new starting left-sided CB. I mean sure two brand new starters would be good but again that's just even more fresh faces to get to know each others game. I mean it's 100% going to be Baines there next season but would love a new powerful, fast LB and I'd give Robinson a spot as second choice for cups/injuries.

Sell: Jags, Williams, Cuco, Baines, Pennington, Browning, Galloway, Garbutt

MIDFIELD (8)

CDM: Gana
CDM: Baningime
CM: New Starting CM
CM: Sigurdsson
CM: Vlasic
CM: Davies
CAM: Dowell
CAM: Lookman

Tell the defensive mid to purely mop up, pass to a better player & cover both full-backs that will be asked to bomb on whenever possible. 2 centre mids playing around him with high energy but also high quality. I'd start Sig and a new face (Ozyakup?) there who have a bit of freedom in their positioning. Davies, Vlasic etc. to be their understudies. Whilst I would love to sign a world class attacking mid for the hole I do feel we're hitting a transitional period where we can afford to try see just what Dowell and Lookman can do.

Sell: Grant, Mirallas, Bolasie, Klaassen (just don't think he'll ever adapt his game), Schneiderlin (would keep if he can play good consistently), McCarthy is injured so he's no use to us here or sold yet but I'd consider keeping.

FORWARDS (5)

ST: Cenk
ST: Walcott
ST: DCL
ST: Sandro
ST: Henry

Would start Cenk and Walcott together - I know he's looked good out wide but he's more productive centrally to me and this saves us spending a bomb on 2-3 more wingers. DCL and Sandro (if we can't offload) to be their back-up and also Henry who can play wide as well as through the middle. Maybe our version of Jamie Vardy tactics?

Sell: Sorry Oumar but you're gone along with academy flops ike Henen, Sambou etc.

So a first team squad of 24 there with 4-5 new signings needed supplemented by a lot of outgoings if possible. I'd loan out people like Feeney, Gibson, Connolly, Evans, Hornby etc. Maybe see how Williams looks in pre-season but reckon we'll sell him myself. Don't see it as too difficult to do with this dodgy transfer window we have this year.
I think with how bad the PL is and how much worse it'll be with teams like Cardiff and Millwall possibly coming up we can easily finish 7th since we're already 8th. I know this isn't acceptable to some but with a possible new manager I'd sure as Hell take that as a transitional season and then improve in January & next Summer.

I'm going to bed now before anyone tells me to.
I agree with most of this TBH. Personally i would make the left flank the priority. Get international quality players for LB and LW and a good international quality CM.

I would be ok starting the season with Keane and Holgate as the CB partnership but we probably would need another new face once williams has gone.

I’d like to see a new CF too. Preferably an upgrade on Cenk or at least similar level.

We need three outstanding players. Doesn't really matter what positions they play, they just need to come in and immediately be our three best players.
Buying players without worrying about how they fit in to the team didn't work out for us so well last year.

We will most likely finish 8th this season despite playing terrible pretty much all season. So a new manager and 1 or 2 key players in should be enough to push for 6/7th.
