Do our players think they're better than they really are?

Not sure the reasons for these three? After all, the manager picks Howard and Barry, we never hear them spouting in the press.

And Barkley is just going through a moment that Sterling had last season. He will be back soon enough

I'll explain a little better:

Howard - going straight back in could make him believe he's soooo good. When of course we know that he isn't.

Barkley - Weird one to explain. He got a hell of a lot of exposure and hype. What if he believed it thus putting more pressure on himself and has led to him being pants this season.

Barry - same as Howard. Gets picked every game. Could think he's sooo good.

Not saying anything definite. Just possibilities. The opposite could also be true.

...we have some fine players. The very best have an attitude to match which is where some of the problems might lie.

its all about the attitude, its not gonna magically work out every match, even if you are the better team...if you dont play your heart out the smaller teams will punish you. this is the premier league.

Our squad is utter drudge

Osman/Barry/Distin/Hibbert/McGeady/Atsu/Kone/Alcaraz/Howard/Naismith

All crap

My first point is I actually think our players are low on confidence after not playing to their abilities this season and in fact they think that maybe they arent as good as they actually are, maybe?

My second point is why cant anyone spell Mirallas?

Mir-arl-arse

Not sure how highly the players regard themselves but it's clear which ones are individualists instead of team players, emphatically clear in a team playing poorly.

It's good to have a ton of self confidence as long as it doesn't affect your work ethic and attitude as a teammate, in my opinion. I think Mirallas has been affected negatively by his confidence though.

i think Mccarthy, maybe. Mayybbeee Mirallas, Maybe.

but i think we got a few that could be in the future. if Besic keeps learning like he has, he could be world class, so could Stones.
I like Besic but i dont think he and Stones will plateau at the same level. Stones really COULD be world class, i think Besic has the ability to 'just' be class.

We've got too many players at either end of the scale. Baines, Coleman, Oviedo, Barkley, even Jagielka all don't truly believe they are as good as we know they can be. There was a period when Baines was the best full back in the league but would disappear in a big game, same for England, he just doesn't believe he belongs on this stage. At the other end of the scale you've got Mirallas and Lukaku the big I ams the only ever really look bothered in the big games and think they are far better than they really are. I think out of the current squad only Stones and Besic are in the middle where they know how good they are and use that confidence to perform at the top of their game regardless of opponent. Really you want a squad full of Stones and McCarthys with a few big time Charlies in it to turn up for the big moments. At the moment we're too much the other way, depending on the egos too much whist the good players won't stand up for us when we need them to.
