Do our players think they're better than they really are?

The two Belgians definitely do. I think Howard is entitled to think he's decent as he has good international pedigree and has performed well at Premier League level over many years.

Barkley is the polar opposite - I don't think he believes in his head how good he actually is. Barry is good but age is catching up, and he's exposed by the awfulness of the team as a whole.

But it's difficult to say overall. Look at Baines and Coleman for example. They have both been awful all season, yet we don't know if it's because they're not as good as we thought, or because the system and overall team performance has basically killed them off.

Coleman is a fantastic player I don't think we can doubt that. I dono what's going on this season put he has proven himself over the last 2/3 years. Some of the things he has produced as a right back have been electric. Same for Baines. I definitely agree with everything else you said.

I think it's probably safe to say that there are a number of Evertonians that vastly over rate our players. Nothing wrong with that in my mind. It's harmless and giving support to players is generally good.

But do the players themselves think they are better than they truly are?

I'm looking at:

Mirallas - reckons he's good enough for the Champions League even though he can't play more than 4 games in a row without being a fanny.
Lukaku - spouting rubbish about wanting to play for a huge club
Howard - walks back into the starting line up despite being poop all season (admittedly not his fault but may give him the feeling he's better than he is)
Barkley - does he think he's as good as he is?
Barry - Plays every game

There are probably more examples.

Not sure the reasons for these three? After all, the manager picks Howard and Barry, we never hear them spouting in the press.

And Barkley is just going through a moment that Sterling had last season. He will be back soon enough

Loooooooong, long way to go and a lot of improvement needed before he can be considered as that.

That's why he's only 21. To be fair to him at his age none of the top strikers were doing as well as he is now. He's by no means the finished article, but if he was then he wouldn't be playing for us.
