Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

Just rate this this thread so highly for the love and support it gives to those of us going through difficult times. Knowing that there are so many like-minded people out there who can share their own experiences and offer advice and help - many of who, themselves, have or had similar downfalls and hardships so can legitimately comment. Thank you.

Btw, not saying this for 'likes' so please...don't. I just felt that it needed saying because it makes me realise we are not alone when faced with life's trials and tribulations 🙏

Don't think anyone would think something like this is written for the likes on here. A lot of us feel that way and expressing gratitude like you did is sometimes a hard thing to do. This thread is indeed a blessing.

We've banned the word 'birthday' and 'alan ball' in here to reduce like farming

With ref "Zezti" getting his job -- well done fella - I'd like to submit this "connected" anacdote which people may find interesting or enjoyable and one which has stuck with me.

On being lucky enough to visit Disney World in Florida with my better half and the bairns who were toddlers at the time, we were going through a part of the attractions which was showing the cartoonists / drawers hard at work. They were working on Alladin I think. Anyway, we were able once the demonstration was over to ask the cartoonist a question. I put my hand up - my missus looked at me as if I was going to embarrass her ha ha - and I was able to ask a question. How I asked do you get such a prestiges job as an drawer / artist, at Walt Disney? The young chap replied that that he thought he had applied about 25 times to get an interview. Eventually, he was given an interview and he was overjoyed as you can imagine to be offered a position. On his first day at work, he bumped into the one of the people who was part of the panel who interviewed him. He asked "why did you choose me, I'd tried 25 times before for a job, why now?" He said the man said with a wry smile "because you applied 25 times".

They were looking for someone who didn't give up, that if they persisted they'd get there in the end. I suspect Zezti and others who will corroborate the meaning in my anecdote. It also applicable in many ways to mental health in an assortment of ways. I have looked at the people I support with huge admiration for their "persistence", having experienced all sorts of heartache and pain and eventually, carrying on and picking up their lives. The inner strength needed to bounce back when faced with adversity. We all have inner strength and determination we often feel we don't have. Take care all.

Anyone had Chemo ?Missus starts tomorrow on an 8 dose stint every 3 weeks.Need to know what to do as support xxx
Mrs Thumpety-Thump went through six months of chemo a few years ago. Not going to lie, it’s likely to be very tough for your missus, the only thing you can do is be there for her as much as you can.

I was fortunate that I could attend every chemo session with my wife, so could hold her hand, get her cups of tea or a new magazine etc while she was sitting there getting the infusion. The other thing we noticed that helped was friends cooking meals for us and the MIL doing our washing every week. Little things that neither of you will have the energy for so don’t be afraid to ask for practical help if you have a support network.

The other thing I’d recommend is reminding her during the treatment that it won’t last for ever and that each session brings her one step closer to her last session.

Best of luck mate and if you want to talk in more detail feel free to DM me.

Good morning lovely fellow Blues, My turps operation was completed yesterday afternoon. Due to the prostate being very enlarged the operation took just under 2 hours. Bedbound at the moment as they are constantly flushing saline solution through the catheter. The consultant is due to see me this morning and hopefully if all is well will stop the flushing but leave the catheter fitted with just a bag attached. Not really in any pain just a bit of discomfort, probably rest a lot today as never had much sleep with the nurses coming in every hour for various tests. Hopefully this is the start of my proper retirement as since I retired on Feb 1st I have spend most of the time having a pee 😁
How you getting on? Not prying, hoping you're getting the follow up care and moving away from the discomfort as best as possible.

Hi Mate hope you are well pal, Had the catheter removed on Thursday morning (Hospital kindly brought it forward 48 hours), was not looking forward to it being removed but it was not as bad as expected. Things are looking pretty good no pain, no dribbling, no accidents, the only issues I have are a burning sensation when peeing and frequent urination but they are 2 of the main side effects of catheter removal and have been told they will settle down in a week or so. Was in the hospital for 7 hours (I expected it to be removed and told to go home) as they did 3 ultrasound scans of my bladder and lots of flow tests and they were all excellent. Will know more in approximately 5 weeks as the recovery time is about 6 weeks but so far things are looking very good. Thanks for asking mate it means a lot to me.....Ps this site is brilliant 💙💙

Just to add if anyone else has a turps operation I have been told the best thing to drink to help recovery is 100% coconut water, luckily I do mind the taste :D
