But it's necessary. Very few top level managers actively scout players anymore and given the modern high turnover that the job entails there needs to be a level of long term thinking and strategy within the management structure.
However our implementation of it has been very poor and Brands was seemingly something of a dope. We are still stuck in the old mindset with too many cooks in the kitchen. Just hire an established DOF and let him do his job free from the likes of Moshiri and Kia and god knows who else.
I'm not sure we would have 'Bach-ed' him in the transfer marketwell that was a nice 10 minuets

Give it to Denise Barratt Baxendale, preferably with an explanation of why those men run around a field.Reread a Athletic piece about the Sporting Director/Technical/Director of football - was really insightful - Comolli (regardless of opinion of him) and Ashworth make so much sense in it, and how it would fail at clubs (mainly down to dysfunction and culture).
If its ever to work here, and I think we need it - we need to sort that side of things out first, hopefully the "sporting review" indicates this for it to work.

Probably go somewhere in the summer.
Don't get me wrong don't disagree with him going I'd just like to know exactly who was actually doing the deals? Was he being stopped by moshiri were the prices agreed by someone else who knows.I agree that he probably wasn't allowed to do his job correctly but let's not forget the massive price tags paid, poor mentality players targeted and being unable to affect the long term strategy of the club in a meaningful way (regardless of roadblocks). He needed to go.
If you believe the story Kirkbride wrote then he was doing his own deals and keeping within the budget, it's just that Moshiri was also doing stuff behind his back and over riding him and blowing the budget such as signing James so he could appease Carlo when Brands had said no for money reasons. Having said that some of his own deals were poor to say the least and I don't ever really think he understood what was required for a player to play in the PL.Don't get me wrong don't disagree with him going I'd just like to know exactly who was actually doing the deals?
