Current Affairs Defund the BBC

My work involves me coming across this argument a lot. I can say with certainty that both the left and the right are equally convinced that the BBC leans to the other side. I'd say that was pretty compelling evidence that they're effectively balanced. They aren't perfect by a long shot, but i've yet to see a credible argument against them to be honest.

As an aside, if you think a public service broadcaster should be defunded, or you shouldn't have to pay your TV licence, because you don't like the coverage your football team gets, you probably need to reassess your life a little bit.
Well put.

I really am no fan of Murdoch - that is for sure. But I just believe that the BBC are playing right into his hands.
Murdoch has started to offer alternatives to the BBC which is becoming more and more distant from the
average person in the street. Murdoch has now launched his 'Times Radio' station which I have on occassions
used as an alternative to Radio 4 in the mornings to get the news and current affairs update. To be honest, I found
it was pretty good and John Piennar's show in the afternoon is excellent. He's most certainly not a Tory flop or stooge.
He says it as it is. Murdoch eventually will launch his TV news channel, which will become a direct alternative to the BBC news.
With each new Murdoch broadcasting channel be it radio or TV the BBC becomes less relevant. Through his media channels he can
then slowly, but surely & steadily ramp up the pressure to drop the TV licence to fund the BBC. How the BBC can't see this
is beyond me. I think they can see it actually, but they just refuse to accept it and think there will always be the TV licence
fund model to keep them going. I give the BBC less than 10 years in it's current state. It will by then have some form
of subscription / payment base to fund or part fund it.
Murdoch news channel is sky news.
I just don’t see what the bbc does wrong... and how it is distant from people on the street? If you spend time in the us the news their is horrendously sentional. I think we do hard news well:
As you say we all have our opinions.

Exactly.
I lived in the USA for 8 months a couple of years ago and fully agree that our news is far better than what they have.
This is the new news channel I meant:

Yep - it's all about opinions.

Exactly.
The BBC have themselves created a gap in the news media channels due to their bias & wokery.

What bias is that? I’m curious because both sides of the spectrum say it’s biased.

Also “ Wokery “ I personally only heard that saying a few months back from the likes of Fox and that ilk. What is it about the BBC and wokery which upsets you? Just curious

as iv said before what the bbc does wrong is send threatning letters and bullies from capita to your home if you refuse to subscribe, whether you use the service or not,THIS is the big difference between the bbc and sky!

It doesn't upset me it just gets on my nerves. A recent example being when the BBC showed the Dad's Army film last weekend,
they put up a warning beforehand because in the film the word Frogs was used to describe the French. That as an example
just shows you how extreme they have become and how far they go out of their way to find offence where it doesn not exist.
Also, as I have been saying, we the licence fee payers are actually paying the wages of the people who come up with this.
Their obvious & blatant bias on programmes like Question Time etc. Maybe this article in The Spectator sums it up better:

Question Time, the Programme Nigel Farage has been on literally dozens of times.

And French people live in the UK. Are you really that annoyed about a mere warning?

The BBC is one of the bulwarks we have against extremism and fascism in this country. It is one of the most important parts of public life and needs to be protected.

That this thread even exists, showing the anti BBC agenda that exists in this country, is a warning sign that Trumpism in the UK isn't impossible.

Each to their own.
Let's just agree to disagree.

What obvious blatant bias is on Question time? I haven't watched it for a while but the guests always seem to be equal between the relevent parties and the media.

You try to combat the biased view of the BBC by quoting an article from the Spectator, owned by the Barclay brothers who like Murdoch have pushed its papers to vilify the BBC and the license fee. Yet they concern so much about the tax payers money the company is listed in the tax haven of Jersey and they live on their own tropical island.

Also, the spectator would have a balanced view on the BBC when its chairman is the actual person who is setting up the new GB News channel.

It's not like they wouldn't have an agenda against the BBC as it would be its main rival??

As I said previously.
Let's just agree to disagree with each other which is more than OK.
That's the fun of forums - different and contrasting views and ideas
all in the pot. :)

Actually, the warning was not about the term " Frogs " it was this

'Language some may find offensive'

The BBC has added a warning to the 1971 Dad’s Army movie warning about offensive language.

An announcement was made before the comedy classic aired on BBC Two on Saturday night, while viewers watching on iPlayer are told the film ‘contains discriminatory language which some may find offensive.’

In the film, Clive Dunn’s character L-Cpl Jones’s uses the term ‘fuzzy-wuzzies’, to describe the enemies he fought in the Sudan under General Kitchener.

I honestly don't see the issue, its accepting the language is not suitable for this day and age so giving a warning as it was deemed acceptable back in the day when it originally came out and yet they still played it.

Sometimes, when i see people cry about woke , PC and the new one cancel culture is they want racism to be out in the open like the good old days.

From reading my twitter this morning i noticed this gimp talk about the woke mob and blame the left for the cancellation of his bookdeal. Or it could be the same reason as the business backers of Trump are pulling away from him, they don't want to be associated with what happened on Wed. Our friend Mr Hawley when this was all happening on Wednesday was too busy grifting asking for donations while the seige was taking place still peddling the election was a fraud.

That's not the BBC, that's TV in general. TV output is regulated, if people are offended by something they will complain to Ofcom, who may a) fine the channel and b) tell them that they are no longer allowed to broadcast that programme. Putting on a short warning mitigates the offence and means that Ofcom will not take that action. Aside from the fact the warning really shouldn't rile anybody anyway, it's in no way specific to the BBC.
