2017/18 Davy Klaassen

We're building a squad mate. There will be plenty of games to play assuming we get through the Split tie, and hopefully we'll bring in Gylfi and a footballing striker before the window closes. There's also a slim possibility of Ross staying if nobody get's close enough to our asking price for him.

I just hope Koeman manages to find the right blend of players and formations to suit each opponent, and uses the squad to it's full potential. If so, there'll be plenty of game time for everyone and we'll also keep players fresh.

Klaassen has a lot to offer and his skill set is different to anybody else in the squad. He is a give and go type player and needs players around him who are on his wavelength. Rooney is clever enough and I think he and DCL have also shown some good link up play so far. Gylfi will definitely add to that and hopefully the new striker we bring in too. His clever off ball running will create many chances for himself and others, as we saw with Rooney's goal yesterday.

We just need to give him a chance to settle in, for other players to get used to his style, and to bring in other 1 or 2 other players who are intelligent enough to take advantage of his skillset.

Once he's settled, he's the sort of player I'd be playing against teams that park the bus, rather than where we are looking to play a counter attacking game. He was effective for Ajax because they tended to dominate possession in most of their games. I think he could play a similar role for us. Whilst nothing is certain in this game I'm hoping that he will prove to be a valuable addition to our squad. But I think you've made your mind up on him already mate so I don't expect you to agree with me.
He's not £25M worth of player.

I dont see how he adds that value to the team. He's looking like a bit of a spare arse part atm for me.

Can that change? Yes it can. But I dont see much evidence there's much there for us. Tidy and perfunctory is the best thing that I could say about his game.

Possibly. I'm prepared to give him a bit more time though as per my post. Hopefully I'll be right and you wrong as it means it won't be £24m wasted, which is what we all want. Right?

Of course. He'll get time to prove himself.

Early signs based on three competitive games leads me to this conclusion: Davies should never be left on the bench in favour of him. It's HE that should be trying to get the shirt off Davies, not the other way around.

IMO there's a gulf in class between Davies and Klaassen.

Bit if a contradiction there Dave. On the one hand you're saying that he'll get time to prove himself. Then say he should never get a start ahead of Davies. Sounds to me like you've made your mind up already based on 3 matches, 2 of which are little more than glorified pre season games.

Why is that contradictory? He can seize his chance from the bench cant he?

You give starting jerseys to players good enough to wear them not because you paid £25M for them.

Davies should be starting. I doubt too many would disagree with that.

I hope he comes good and it looks like he really can read the game well. Needs to sack off those first time balls straight back to the person he got it from tho, thats an absolute load of wank

Sad to see Everton fans publicly slaughtering their own new signings so soon into the new season just to further their own agendas. The fact that this seasons Barkley thread is already 140 0dd pages and this is 67 pages so far whilst the players like Idrissa Gueye who's arguably been MOM at least twice and players like Michael Keane who've done well have less than 20 pages between the two of them in their threads proves Everton fans just love to whine on and have a good moan. The Barkley fan boys will never give this lad a fair chance and the Koeman haters who pretend they're behind him will just look to use him as a stick to beat koeman if he's not outstandingly good every week, but ok this is football.
