Also, if we'd started off with two back to back home games we might have been faced with a different scenario right now. No coincidence he got maximum points from the two we had at GP.
Not just that but he’s had to contend with two games a week and as a result little time to work on the training ground. In addition can’t really sort that defence out until we can sign some players in January.

I echo all of the above thoroughly deserved commendations. He conducted himself with the utmost dignity throughout, and didn’t shirk responsibility.

Blinding bit of strategy too to play Rooney so deep.

Good luck for the future.
Playing Rooney deep, in basically the Schneiderlin role was difference. We got the balance right for first time this season, plus Siggurdson started to get his confidence back after his goal last game. Keep Rooney in that role with likes of Gueye and Davies and we’ll be a better team. Banish Schneiderlin to the stands!

Buzzing with the win, I genuinely am, but need to have a vent about out True Blue Unsworth. As I put in other thread:

What are we thanking him for? For being the Terry Connor, Ricky Sbragia, Brian Kidd for us?

Lovely feller, but let's not get carried away: he hasn't saved us from certain relegation, he hasn't won us a cup, but he has overseen some of the most embarrassing and humiliating performances and results in recent memory. And that is saying something with our record.

Imagine Taking over a struggling side: First thing I need to do is alienate our only form player, Vlasic, and NEVER EVER start him, regardless.

Need a win in Lyon? Sound, let's play an attacking midfielder with no pace (who I usually play inexplicably on the wing) as a LONE striker. That will win us the game.

Let's send two utter disrespectful d!ckheads home from training, and then bring them straight back into the team because I need to be everyone's mate, laughing, joking and arm round the shoulder of everyone.

Let's bomb out players who haven't completed TWO premier league games, like Klaassen and Sandro, lads lacking in confidence, needing nurturing coming to a new league.

Let's go to Southampton who have scored 9 all season and gift them four goals, and pose no attacking threat, all while still playing phonies like Schneiderlin and Mirallas.

Let's keep playing Calvert Lewin, a lad who has about as good a goal ratio as Tony Hibbert up front. Leon Osman's record is probably better, without even looking. But keep playing him, because I need to be seen as a paragon of youth development.

And above all: mention the fans, mention the club, mention the chairman. Praise how good the fans are you disrespected with your midfielder up front away to Lyon in a must win game, and show how shocked you are when absolutely feeble managers like Pellegrino outthink and outclass you.

Let's get our pants pulled down by a mid table Italian side, who haven't won a SINGLE game in two months, put a kid on for his debut, out of position, mid-rape, and condemn us to our worst result in Our proud European history.

Let's be a top BLUE, who gets us.

Thank you so much. Thanks for getting an incredibly lucky chance at the best job in the world.

Come at me.

One win against arguably the worst team in the league doesn't change the fact that we have a terrible squad and are closer to 20th than we are to 6th.

Big Sam has a big job on his hands.

Having said that, if we fans are as loud and as vociferous in our support of our team every home match as we were last night, we should get plenty of wins at Goodison.

Haha. It’s been a grim few weeks. I swear to god - the man has sailed a difficult ship through troubled waters. I’m made up he goes back to the u23 with that experience

Out the players, owners and board, not to mention supposedly Everton friendly journos, he's the only one whose come out of this entire shambles of a season looking and acting like he truly cares about the club, for that we should all be grateful.

And Liverpool are closer to west brom in 17th than they are city mate.

got put into a tough situation cleaning up moonhead's mess and had to try to turn around a squad with no confidence or backbone. didn't do enough for the job permanently but don't think many could given the context of the situation. win two at Goodison and got us back up to 13 which is a decent start

Good post

Feel for this man who has blue blood, great game to finish and Rooney to do it for him. That celeb some thing else and did I see Fergis jumping?

Unsy will stay with us, he gets what Everton means.

Looked like a broken man after the previous game, said it was 'Killing him' and sounded like he wanted a new manager in which was a shame for him really he should have kept his confidence and he might have had a chance if the bed wetters didn't keep hounding on about relegation so it was nice to see him go out with a win.
