David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

It doesn't help that Jags and Williams are both past it and Baines best days are long gone but equally they aren't being helped by the coaching. Keane left Burnley with United, The RS and numerous other teams interested. He looked a class act the first couple of games but has become as much of a liabiltiy as the others. Somewhere along the way we've just stopped doing the basics and that comes from the management

I love this narrative we’ve concocted that we somehow fended off massive interest for Keane in some sort of mad auctioning ceremony where we beat United and everyone else. Other clubs probably had a look and realised that for a top club who want to play on the front foot and play good football Keane simply doesn’t have what it takes. Stick him in a well drilled back 4 (a la Burnley) with a midfield 5 in front of him and he looks solid. For us this year and for England he’s been poor, simple as that. No better than Shawcross at Stoke.

We did that for many seasons under Moyes finished one place above relegation one season!

Bit harsh, I am probably Moyes' biggest critic but we did play some nice stuff under him too. Again, we had movement back then too. Lesser players like Bent, Li Tie, Kilbane etc etc, they all moved for the ball at least. It's such basic stuff. You can have all the talent in the world (and we do have some talented footballers) but if you don't have the nous to go with it then this is what you end up with.

Yes it was harsh, but he did have a bad season Gregg wanted him sacked - season after we come 4th so there is hope we can turn it around with the right manager!

I think David Unsworth has misjudged the situation with the first team and now realises that his chance has gone.

There is no doubt that when Unsworth first took over from RK the players seemed really to be playing for him. I think David Unsworth thought that he could put out a team in the same format as the under 23s play and get results.... this has not happened and I think the players have lost faith in him.

If we appoint Allyrdyce, Dyche, Silva or O Neill the first thing they will do is concentrate on our defending ...all through the team.
Against a poor Southampton team yesterday it was clear we had no defensive plan. Sigurdsson was to help Baines(something he is clearly not suited for or able to do ) our central midfield were being overrun from all over the field. We had a young inexperienced centreforward trying to contest long balls against VVD when a smaller faster forward might have been more productive.

In short we were a mess from the outset. I think these players can do much better but they have to have belief in the man over them and that clearly isn't there at present.

Not having that Unsworth is blameless you know. He’s picking [Poor language removed] teams & playing similar tactics to Koeman which failed. He’s actually made our defence even worse as well. Yes, thrown in the deep end but he hasnt helped himself one bit.

One thing Moyes did not stand any nonsense from the players, remember the Limpar show.

Don't think he has a clue tbh

Unsworth is not blameless. His first mistake was to say that he wanted the job long term but would accept whatever decision the Board made. He should have kept quiet, got on with the job and let results do the talking. Pretty sure that if he had won 4 or 5 of those matches, Moshiri would have gone with BK and installed him as manager until the end of the season. Right now he cannot do that as the performances/results are placing the 'project' at significant risk. Managing the u23s & a home win against a relegated Norwich City do not warrant you getting what is still one of the biggest jobs in British football. He was touting himself from the beginning. Relegation is not acceptable for a club like Everton but it can and could happen. I remain confident that we will be okay but that opinion will change if we lose the next 2 matches.
