David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

Unsy was one of my favourite players when I was a teenager. He looked genuinely pained in his post match interview. I don't doubt his love for this club. That said, our defence is shockingly poor, I would have expected an ex defender like Unsy to at least have it far better organised

He’s said he wants the club to appoint a permanent manager ASAP.

Wise man. Not just saying “gimme the job” - he clearly knows he’s not quite ready.

Much respect to him then. A lesser man would put their ego ahead of the club and still think they were the right man for the job, when the evidence clearly suggested otherwise.

But, as I've said before, he's a good coach, this is just too soon for him. He's been handed a veritable hospital pass from the board taking on this shambles over the past few weeks.

Nah, much of it is his fault. This is not a squad that should be in the relegation zone and it's up to the manager to make it so. Stepping up from managing U23s to managing the first team is like coming from a League 2 side to managing PL. The opponents are tougher, the scrutiny is harsher, the pressure is greater, the egos are bigger. It takes a very special talent to step up from u23 to first team and I'm afraid Rhino, good bloke as he is, isn't that.

In fairness at the moment we’re not in it and we were when Unsworth took over. Secondly with the injuries we have it absolutely is a squad that should be down there. We don’t have one fit defender of premier league class. We don’t have one fit striker of premier league class apart from Niasse who is now suspended. We have injuries/suspensions to any player you may consider to be in form and in their prime.

It is absolutely the sort of potent mix that can easily see a side relegated. The saving grace is that we have time to fix it, players to return from injury, a January window. You would hope that the board are working overtime to appoint a manager and to have a successful January. Instead it is more likely they are behaving like children, January will be another failed window, Road Barkley continues to have the longest right hamstring ever known and we’ll be seriously panicking in the late season.

Strong decisive leadership could solve this now and we could be sitting in mid table enjoying a cup run next year. If Moshiri continues to sit on his hands then we will be enjoying a relegation battle plain and simple.

He needs to tell the board he wont sit on the bench on Wednesday and go back to the under 23's, for his own well being. Put a lucky dip bucket on Goodison Road and let one of the fans take charge. Until we appoint a manager strong enough* to deal with gutless players and a divided boardroom we're screwed.
*yes, I mean Allardyce.

Feel sorry for him now as he doesn't know what to do to get this bunch of alarmingly poor players actually performing.

Nail on the head.

It surprises me how few people see this.
Unsworth plays Rooney, he gets criticised. Unsworth plays Kenny, he gets criticised. Unsworth plays Williams, he gets criticised. Unsworth plays kids, he gets criticised. Unsworth plays DCL, he gets criticised. Even if he played Vlasic or Mirallas, he'd get criticised.
