David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

But this is the problem - it's not just about coaching. You think about someone like Ferguson at United, by the end he barely did any coaching, it was pure delegation. Martinez had handed masses of it over to that idiot he had as his number two whose name escapes me. It's about being able to draw on contacts and experience and innovation - do we trust Unsworth on this yet? If we do, remove the uncertainty and appoint him immediately.

There's no club 'style' for him to inherit, and that's dangerous; that's how Guardiola and Zidane were able to seamlessly take control at senior level. We've gone from the extreme pragmatism of Moyes, to the kamikaze mayhem of Martinez, to the God knows what under Koeman.

Taking of idiots - Moyes had Steve " ear piece " Round doing a lot of the coaching.

I'd say it's the norm, rather than the exception.

* @Joey66 time for a nap x

Absolutely - so who would be Unsworth's second doing all the coaching here? Ebrell? Sooooooo risky.

Dunno lads, I think a few people are being swayed by an U23 league win (where we'd put plenty of money into our setup and a striker with European competition experience) and a good press conference. It really needs to be a top end coach.

With Unsworth as the heir apparent when the time is right

I'm happy for him to take over while we look for a top level appointment.

If in the meantime that means Unsworth impresses enough to get the job full time then all the better - otherwise I'd thank him for helping us out and appoint him to the first team coaching staff as part of the next step in his managerial development.

Absolutely.

I had this idea the other day; why don't the top clubs ever loan out coaches?

Championship clubs must spend a fortune sacking and hiring managers. Why not just get a top coach from a top club (like Unsworth), gain all their skills and knowledge while giving them the experience, then send them back when / if it doesn't work out?

If we'd have done this with Unsworth, we'd have got him 3 years experience elsewhere by now. You'd also loan your players to that club too

It's so refreshing to hear someone who's 100% genuine. Maybe he's too genuine for his own good. Who knows?

God I'd loov it if he was to get a few wins . It all depends on how he can appeal to the creatures who played on the park on Sunday.

I wonder what he'll say to them.

Nearly every top coach has been fired from somewhere, they are no guarantee that it will work. Every footballing situation is different. Zidane a complete novice who couldn’t coach the B team very well retains the CL for the first time in history, I bet he probably couldn’t get a tune out of Burnley though in Just the same way Dyche couldn’t earn the respect of Ronaldo etc. Horses for courses. This current course needs someone to unite the fan base, make an immediate impact on results, get players back on side, get Ross Barkley to stay. Unsworth can potentially do all these things. If at some point the course changes and we need a continental philosopher to implement a long term plan then we can change again but at the moment given the current predicament I’d feel more confident with Rhino than with a Tuchel. Pellegrini and Ancelotti due to their prem experience and man management would probably be the only ones of the available managers I’d have ahead of Unsworth.

Graeme Jones orly. The funniest thing ever was when there was a set - piece in a game, Martinez would go and sit down, and Jones would come out and stand in the technical area, when the set - piece had been taken, Jones would go and sit down, and Martinez would come back out, used to go on all game.
