David Unsworth - Temporary Manager

But it's the manner of the further decline which has possible done fatal damage to the squad. Why not go back to basics and make the team difficult to beat? We were scoring goals - not loads of them, but a goal a game in the league. If you get some clean sheet games in there with your 1 goal a game... something magical happens.... you win 1-0. It ain't pretty, but it works at a time of crisis.

Not for 'look at me I'm a superblue' Unsy.

4-3-3 (because that has worked so well for the last four seasons), players out of position again, chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarge. Oh no, we now concede 2 goals a game.

Unsworth has spewed it everywhere here.

I'm not disagreeing. He's had an awful audition for any job and confirmed mine and a lot of other people's theory that he wasn't close to being ready.

But why should he be booted out of the club? He should be tasked with being the U23s manager has he has done so well for the past four seasons.

Don't be a melt lad ffs.

He's the only one who's chuffing won anything with this club in 21 years.

He's done brilliantly well for four years with the U23s. And you want him getting booted out of the club after 6 games in charge of a team that can barely string together two passes?

Nobody is saying he should be manager. But why can't he go back to his role that he was doing so well in?

Weird.
The U-23 league, really?! How many of them will actually ever make it? Also, he had Niassé scoring goals for fun.

Too much sentiment at the club. I want them all kicked out. I’m sick of the leeches.

Failures at the club everywhere and we make sure they’ve got a home for life.

Look at us bring Jose Baxter, back. Ffs!

I’ll take that as you didn’t watch the Premier League games.

We were extremely fortunate in both. Two penalties (one undeserved) have saved us.

The changes made against Watford were forced by the fans.

Back Unsworth at our peril. Thankfully, I don’t think there is any chance of him getting the job now.
I see the points we got. I dont expect silky football from the sows ear players left to Unsworth from Koeman.

Who is backing him though?

We're just pointing out you can't sack someone of a job they're not even employed in.

@davek isn't saying that he wants Unsworth in the long term, is he? I can't see how anybody can want that.

But it isn't Unsworth's fault he's still in this position.

Agree in that it's a pointless game and tbh all it showed me last night was that the players can't even play for pride.

Baningime, Sandro (purely as he worked hard and I hope that goal gives him a bit of confidence) and to an extent Kenny/Feeney the only ones who seemed to want it. Robles did what he could with the penalty save and kept the score down at 1/2-0.

But I don't get the stick for Unsworth.

He isn't asking to get the job anymore. His team selection yesterday was a reflection that we can't afford injuries to key players in a pointless game.
I hope all week since Palace the players were only preparing for Southampton and not for Atalanta.

That would have been my strategy: the players down to start against S'ton all week being coached just for that game. Minimum time given over to playing against Atalanta. No result from that game is going to help us where we need it most.

Tbh mate, I think I would probably look at Unsworths next move as the sign of his intention in football - having had a taste (and not a great one) for first team football, you'd expect he would want a role managing a first team rather then dropping down again.

I know he loves the club and its probably an enticing prospect working back with the U23's but I would probably look at his ambitions in football from his own perspective if he happily drops back down.

Dont want him booted out, he should have a job with the U23s until he decides otherwise, but I think it might be a telling part on his personal ambition.

Niasse scored 6 goals last season and was only in the U23 side for two months before his move to Hull.

Davies. Dowell. Baningime. Holgate. Kenny. Pennington. DCL.

Seven examples off the top of my head of players he has helped nurture who have featured in the first team and at least four of which should have very fruitful careers either here or at other Premier League clubs.

They're not listening mate. They have their scapegoat.

Dave wants him until the end of the season. That would see us relegated.

As absolutely horrific as last night was, I'm doing my best to ignore it as it made no difference. What we really need to do is concentrate on the league. 4 points from 3 games so far.

Realistically we're not appointing anyone before Sunday, so he has another league game at least - and given we have West Ham and Huddersfield in quick succession, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in charge for all three. If we lose all three, we're in ultra panic mode and I'll agree that we need to pull the red cord and give Allardyce whatever he wants.

Performances (last night aside) have been very marginally better under Unsworth, I think. 4 or 5 points from the next 3 league games would calm me down for now, but we're on a knife edge at the moment.

IF (and it's a huge 'IF') Unsworth does well enough in the next three games that it causes us to avoid pressing the panic button and appointing the first semi-competent manager we can find who will join us and it ends up he sees us through until the end of the season, there had better be a plan in place for the summer because everything needs ripping up and starting again.

Of course, if he doesn't want his job back, by all means, show him the door.

But it should be offered to him. Why should he be booted out?

I expect an impact. I expect him to recognise our weaknesses. The defence wasn’t great, but he has managed to make it even worse.
He can only solve our weaknesses in defence and attack by buying in new players.

Dont you get it? THESE PLAYERS ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
