No, he's not supposed to sit on 0-0 draw. He could set us up with a chance to win, that would be a good idea. Instead, it's 'we'll stay reasonably solid (they had plenty of chances anyway) and then open up hur hur hur' so what did Lyon do? They just waited for us to, er, open up, which we did. It wasn't the right decision and the result showed that. You wouldn't even mind, he tried to do the same thing against Chelsea and, er, that didn't work either.

I thought it was worth trying the formation last night as bizarre as it seemed.

DCL is no real goal threat as he proved when he came on, and Mirallas was poor against Leicester, so why not experiment.

Sure, we didn't create any chances (what's new?), but at least we know Siggy up front will never be an option (ok, maybe he should have already known that).

But Rhino is just trying his best to create some semblance of a team out of the squad of misfits, youngsters and has-beens that Koeman left him with.

His setup at Leicester is still his biggest mistake as far as I'm concerned. The three CDMs last night suggests he's getting it, even if the specifics weren't quite right.

Whichever way you look at it, our priority should be to stop shipping goals. If we're not scoring, which we aren't, it's the only way to get points on the board.

Goals are gushing in at the other end - and sorting that, not 'being on the front foot,' should have been item one on the to-do list. The problem is that Unsworth isn't just managing, he's auditioning. He shouldn't be trying to sell a style of play to the board and the fans, he should be steadying the ship. I think he's getting that, but perhaps a bit late.

I have a great amount of respect for Rhino, and I'm really dissapointed that he's been unable to get a performance from the squad provided.

Indeed. I think both Moshiri and Bill have suggested to him toning down the discussion regarding who will be manager because they do not want to lose him if they appoint someone else. He’s a genuine Evertonian and great at his normal job, there will be time to develop him into the role for the future. What I have always found staggering in football is that no account seems to be taken regarding succession planning, and actively developing someone for the role........

I really want him to do well and I understand that he has huge limitations with that squad but I thought he might have galvanized a bit more team spirit. The point has probably already been made but I found it very strange that not one Everton player stayed with Martina during what must have been a scary injury also very little team consolation for Kenny after his OG.
I was hoping for results but I was expecting team spirit and fight.

Let's face it, the two cup ties we lost in the grand scheme of things are unimportant. We have more serious matters to deal with.

So if we get a win to balance the loss suffered against Leicester then Unsworth can go back (or out) with his head held high. His chance may have gone but he's come in and got fight out of them in all the matches he's taken so far. The team's attitude is faced in the right direction for the new man to come in and take this on from early next week.

We had a chance to win. We missed he. He made a change to give us more of a chance. That's when we gave away the goals. How many do you think Lyon would have scored if we'd started like that? You even say yourself they had chances when we were set up defensively. You think that they would have had less if we'd set up more offensively?? Ok...
