David Unsworth appreciation thread

I'd like to see Unsy got some experience managing some clubs in the football league, before giving him the job managing the Everton first team.If he does well with a championship or league one side then he might be worth a punt. He's well able to fight his corner on the sideline though. He was heard saying shut up just shut up to the manager of the Arsenal u23's on the sideline the other night.lol

I dont understand the whole "cutting his teeth" at a championship or league 1 side.
In modern football how many managers get an opportunity to move from them leagues up to the prem.
Also alot of these sides can be in an absolute mess! That can put a blott on any managers copy book.

Isn't that the point? Taking on a troubled team and turning them around - the sign of a manager with talent?

I think it would be a massive risk dropping Unsworth into the First Team manager role - it's a totally different level to the U23s. At the very least, I would want him to be number two to the first team manager for a couple of seasons before he took the big chair. A shot at management in the Championship would be a real test of his credentials.

The downside of course would be losing his abilities from the U23 setup and the potential impact that could have on our youth setup.

You could say he has lost most of his championship U23 winning side from last season which he has proved to stay up there with all those losses - the games I manage to see on streams - the football is light years ahead of koemans at a lower level, but if we are not careful some team will snap him up, already lost Sheedy - I placed a fact the only time we have won trophies in the last 50 years is with former players as manager - The Catt- Kendal /Harvey/Darracott combination - the last one Joe Royle is it just a coincidence they know how the fans like the game to be played?......
not the turgid offerings we have seen under other managers including this one who has spent big time - the catt had money , but he did fetch younger players into the team who made it big time and boy he would deffo drop them for a big signing - many examples where top signings were left out or sold in his era!

Billy Bingham proves that not all former players make successful managers. Kendall and Royle had both proved themselves at Blackburn and Oldham respectively before they were considered for Everton. Unsworth simply lacks experience.

We didn't "lose" Sheedy; he just got offered lots of money to go coach in the Middle East.

One exception and all those trophies!
My point remains that it is the quality and experience of a putative manager that is paramount not the teams he has played for previously.Unsworth seriously lacks experience and consequently would be a massive and disappointing gamble with the future of our club.

Unsworth won a league he had no right to win last season the youngsters coming through - if flathead was to go he deserves a trial chance as our manager - I'm with you;)
A slight exaggeration considering how highly rated our u23s are. He did very well, but our academy is well funded and we were not exactly underdogs.

I've only just joined this thread so I may have missed it but regardless of all the nice words said about him and him being a good blue, we let Sheedy go as he wasn't great if we're being honest.
