2025/26 David Moyes

I'm hoping that now we know there is no chance of relegation, Moyes might be more willing to try and go for things more

After the last I don't know how many years, I've no problem with the approach of securing Premier League football first, then really going for it. But only in the short term, ideally the mindset should shift over time from being concerned about the bottom to being focused on the top of the table.

We're not there yet, but all signs are good. However, I'd be very interested to k ow the clubs thoughts for what they want from the next manager

Win against Brentford and Wolves and we'll be P21 34pts.

Hopefully if that happened we see a bit more and a real push.

He is at his best when our backs are against the walls and we have a injury crisis.

As much as I was frustrated with Burnley, coming through those two games now with 4 points in a injury ravaged / AFCON hit side.

Fair play.

A challenge for Europe a real possibility.

3pts v Burnley & 1pt Forest was what I predicted.

So he's in on track for the 10pts i expected after the next 2 games.

Some people were so excited to start planning his replacement next summer...

Shame on them.

We shouldn't be hearing about glass ceilings this week. 4 points off a champions league spot ...

4pts off Liverpool who have a game in hand?

Im looking at 2pts from Chelsea & United whose fans are up in arms for various reasons. Both are catchable with the right additions in January, respite from injuries and some luck.

Should be looking up after the Forest result.

But in your own words "shame on" those brushing the Burnley performance and result under the carpet. That was a very poor performance all round.

Mate, check out what Moyes had been telling the media for the last week and a half about expectation levels over Christmas given "we dont have the squad depth", "we're short of numbers".

I wasn't saying that, he was.

He did what he ALWAYS does with Everton: manages expectations - even after he had a huge investment in the squad in the summer.

Moyes acts for Moyes. Never forget that.

We all know what he did when he left here for United. He took the piss out ion this club. It's always him selling Moyes. And any player or club that gets in the way will be thrown under the bus.

Ilm counting the days until this Judas leaves the club. Again.
You act for you. For example, there’s no way you truly expected us to win last night, you did it to criticise him if we lost and praise yourself if we won.

This behaviour is embarrassing, he’s made a better start than any manager since himself, when using the context of previous points totals, 59 points from 38 games is what Ancelotti got in his only full season with us.

Just knock it on the head. You can cry all you want, but it’s not going to change a single thing.

And Moyes was right to mention the squad and its depth/current injuries/AFCON. 9 subs, 2 have only ever kicked a ball for us. In the starting lineup only 6 would start in our strongest team and that’s only because he’s having to use JOB at RB.

If you don’t think that’s worthy of note then there’s no hope of any reasoning with you.

I can totally understand why Moyes keeps his intentions close to his chest regarding who he would like to sign in the coming transfer market, but why does he refuse to let us know about how badly players are injured so denying us of a time scale when we can expect them to return, I don't think any other manager does this as far as I can remember.

No mate, anyone who didn't expect us to win was just suckered by Moyes and lives in negativity, bad blues the lot of them.

That's their company line this week.

Exactly. Where we historically belong. 40 years is a long time and, a bit like in economics with the concept of hysteresis, if your new level remains as low as ours has for 35 years, there is a danger of permanence about it.

If you believe, like I do, that this club has the genetic capability of winning a Premier League, then you want and expect to see us compete at the top. We haven't done that for over 35 years. But we regularly did before that Kenwright interregnum. People MUST believe that the last 35 years was the aberration - not the previous 100. So, this season is us resetting and finding stability. Clearly, it is a huge improvement on the last four years. But this season's level won't and can't be acceptable in another two years. We must find our way back to the top - that has to be the aim.

If the "top" can only mean winning the odd League Cup or FA Cup, fine. Football finance means winning the title is almost out of reach - almost. But winning pots whilst establishing ourselves as serious propositions for the moneyed clubs (who we should soon be rejoining to some extent) MUST be the expectation. If we're eighth or ninth and regular fourth round cup exiters in two seasons time, we're stuck in limbo. This season is soothing relief from financial and institutional meltdown, but that is not the default state for this club. This club MIST emulate the recent success of Newcastle and Aston Villa and Crystal Palace. This is not setting the bar too high. None of those clubs are historically or genetically bigger than us.

Everton surely missed to step on the train back in the early 90s and then the danger is huge to lose the competition to the financially best clubs in the country that can afford almost any player in the world.

It's about building step by step and in our case that takes 2-3 seasons. I want to compete with the best in the country for sure. But we must admit we were around 13 players in May and got a lot of transfers pretty late into season preparation. It didn't help us going into the Leeds game. It's good to see, we're moving into the right direction with the new owners, but are not on the level where could be yet.

It's also a good sign that we could extend long-term with someone like Branthwaite that could play in almost every CB line up in the league, which is not self-evident for a club that has been bottom half for years.

Considering how dreadful we were in preseason we are witnessing an alchemical miracle!

I feel like including Branthwaite and Coleman is a bit disingenuous, to try to play up the injury crisis. Can’t really say their absence will hurt our form when they’ve played no part in the form itself.
Having Branthwaite back unlocks a whole new dimension for the team. Playing so much football without him has been a massive handicap.

Don’t disagree, but he’s played absolutely no part in the season so far, so for some to suggest we will have a tough run because a list of players including JB are unavailable is a bit disingenuous IMO.

…..Moyes Out

Seen a stat earlier

Everton have only ever recorded 3 league wins over the same club in a calendar year without conceding a goal and Moyes is responsible for 2 of them.

Man City in 2008
Notts Forest 2025
There was another team we did it to in 1968
