2025/26 David Moyes

£110M he spent this summer to play like that and have us bottom half again.
Why do you keep repeating £110M like it is a lot of money? In terms of the premier league that is absolutely nothing. Forest (currently struggling) assembled their current squad for £400M. When we are squandering that amount of money then come back. We are pretty much where I would expect a team that have spent nothing for 4 years to be. We spent a little amount for the first time this summer.

Presumably those who hammered Dyche weren’t doing so over 1 game and it was a long term thing for them?

As said, I think given the context of the time Dyche do a decent job, Moyes was exceptional, so do you think there’s a possibility that that is why he’s afforded a little more latitude?

The caveats that are being called upon either apply for all managers or don’t apply for any. You can’t have it both ways.

Dyche had players missing, very poor squads, injuries, ownership turmoil. They were all factors and should have been recognised. Instead they were scorned by some who wanted season on season progression from 48 points, front foot progressive football, and a certain style of football.

Now this same lot are citing missing players, superior opposition, net spend, poor squads, and bad luck as important caveats.

They either apply for both or neither.

Not sure what else he can prove to be honest? You've watched his teams for over a decade. You know the man. What can he prove?
I am more or less in agreement. He had his audition to prove he could do more with Ndiaye Grealish and KDH and he stuck KDH at the 10 and we struggled to score. We could have improved fullback but we opted to bring in depth that he had no intention of integrating into the team. He knocked us out of the cup early. Could have gotten a pacy winger but went for a young player who isn't the best fit atm. I expected this. I was fine with giving him the benefit of a doubt. Same ol rodeo.

Can any nerds pull rolling xGD since Moyes came in? That will show how we're doing.
Not as much as league position and points per game will. That’s a lot easier to find.

Moyes has been in charge for 36 league games since he returned and has picked up 55 points.

For context, Ancelotti’s only full season (38 games) resulted in 59 points

Martinez got 44 an 47

I would say that both of them had better squads.

I've been pilloried for suggesting that there are double standards in this forum, so I hope you've got your tin hat on! But you're absolutely correct, some of Dyche's fiercest critics, who certainly wouldn't have accepted injuries as an excuse for poor performances under Dyche, are amongst the most fawning of defenders of Moyes.

Moyes suggesting that that was Burnley's strongest side was laughable, and entirely consistent with his self-serving narratives. A patched up Burnley were the better team out there today, particularly in the second half, and Moyes had no answer for it. He plays the same tactics no matter what is going on on the pitch, with the opposition, or with absences in the squad. We are down to bare bones, I accept that, and in actuality I'm not too disappointed with a point today but if Moyes is a top manager, which I'm told regularly on here that he is, then it's this exact scenario when he should show that.
With a new manager and backing, I absolutely would not extend Moyes at this moment. Start planning for next year.

People hammered Dyche because we went several games without a goal or shot on target.

Dyche came and did his job, whatever you think positive or negative it’s a waste of time even discussing him.

We are a much better side under Moyes than we were, the summer transfer window is shocking, how much he wears for that who truly knows. We have AK coming into ToffeeTV saying he signed off on all signings - perhaps that’s true perhaps it’s not who truly knows.

What do people truly expect, we have no squad - the drop off from those we missed today in Grealish, KDH, Illy to Alcaraz, Dibling & McNeil is so large it’s unreal.

We’ve sold ever half decent player, and been involved in relegation battles for the past half decade, we aren’t going to transfer into a European team in half a season.

Are we improving? Yes.

Like I’ve just said, Moyes has picked up 55 points from 36 games. I thought Dyche did well at Everton, but if you can show me a 36 game streak where Everton got anywhere near 55 points I’ll acknowledge you have a point.

Most PL games are won by very narrow margins. A lot stay 0-0 to very late in the match. Look at us against Arsenal. But good teams find a way to find the back of the net. Their chances are better timed. They make it happen. They don’t play to not lose. And they’re certainly not going home celebrating a clean sheet to an away side. Good clubs beat clubs they’re supposed to and we’re not doing that.
