2025/26 David Moyes

….players talk positively of him. O’Brien certainly developed, Iroegbunam looked the part at times and says Moyes has made the difference, Keane has looked as strong mentallly as I’ve seen him, Garner and Branthwaite both heaping praise on the Manager.

He brought Armstrong into the fold and he quickly earned Moyes trust but I would be critical that we should’ve seen more of him after Villa away.
O'Brien has been one of the poorest performers over the last couple of months, he's regressed, being targeted by the opposition week in/ week out hasn't helped him or Everton.

Armstrong was only brought back from Preston out of necessity, the moment that need disappeared, so did he. All this talk of him 'earning his trust' is honestly an embarrassment, if he 'earned his trust' why did he admit he was concerned about whether Armstrong (and George) could handle the level of the Spurs game. The telling part is that both came on and improved Everton.....

….he certainly finished the season poorly, I’ll give you that but sadly he wasn’t alone in that respect. It’s my criticism of Moyes not rotating more, KDH, O’Brien and Ndiaye in particular ran out of steam. Rohl, Armstrong, Iroegbunam and George could’ve been used more, they all appeared to earn Moyes’ trust.

I’m not sure Moyes will change on that front.

So why back him so staunchly as that is what we need in a manager, well not just us, every club needs that in a manager.

As a result of the team going into free fall at the end of the season, he`s backed himself into a real corner, with some of the fan base.

No matter what side of the fence you sit on, he needs to hit the ground running at the beginning of the season, as there`s a very real potential for things to to turn nasty very quickly for him.
He will be sacked mid season and then the CEO and ownership will look ridiculous for not being proactive when they had the opportunity. It's what Everton do.

Once things have turned like this then the chances of it spiralling from here are very high.

….i think there was genuinely lots of positives. People forget, this place was buzzing after Chelsea on 21st March because we were in the thick of things. We beat 2 of the top 4 away from home, 3 of the top 6 and gave Arsenal a scare at their place.

The season fell away dramatically from that point and I do largely blame Moyes for that but I also think we progressed. We seem to be in a bit of no-man’s land now, of course we could slip back but a decent window could see us push on and really be in the mix.
We looked good against Chelsea but we need to look at the context ,don't want to take away certain credit towards the performance but while that hipster dork was in charge at Chelsea almost everyone who played Chelsea looked superior to them and dominated the match, solid display but against a team in disarray. I think that match was more of a anomaly then a sign of actual growth

….i don’t back him ‘staunchly’, all Managers will have things they’re stubborn about. Moyes should certainly use his squad more, even if it is the players he trusts.

I’ve been of a view that the period of his contract suits all concerned. I do think @COYBL25 makes a very good point about having to start next season well, you can sense the volatility on here.

That's the nightmare scenario. Have an almighty crap start to the season as a result of pure obstinacy and incompetence in his FOURTEENTH season with us then the hesitancy of TFG results in them pulling the trigger in November. Then it starts allover again.

What really concerned me about him in the final run in, was that he seemed to be on auto pilot, no actual effort to tailor his tactics or personale for matches and if he operates like that with the same glaring issues to our play that were present at the spurs game , he'll be torn to shreds from the offset.

If he does stay I think he'll try to bring a bowen type player which will help flatter to decide initially then the fundamental issues will start to reveal themselves like then did this season and he'll be gone because he needs to make changes and he only seems to do that when it's foisted on him and then he typically quickly reverts

The fire and enthusiasm he had when he took over from Dyche was completely gone by the turn of the year. End of the season he just looked like he had accepted the bad results.
