2025/26 David Moyes

Nothing to do with the manger then?

No one can seriously argue Moyes is a better manager than Emery, but the point about the squad still stands. Most of them have been with us for relegation battles in previous seasons.

Here's a list that don't belong anywhere near a top half club: Mykolenko, McNeil, Tarkowski, Keane, O'Brien (at RB), Barry and Beto. Most of them have been regular starters this season.

The sad thing is due to them hardly playing we don't really know if Iroegbunam, Rohl and Dibling are really at the level either.

Leighton Baines (22) — Signed from Wigan Athletic.
Joleon Lescott (23) — Signed from Wolves.
Dan Gosling (17) — Signed from Plymouth Argyle.

West Ham United
Mohammed Kudus (23) — Signed from Ajax in 2023.
Jarrod Bowen (23) — Plucked from Hull City in January 2020.

Across his long managerial career, the average age of a David Moyes signing sits right at 26.1 years old.
At the aga of 23 calling a player 'youth' is a stretch, normally that's 21 and under.

But that's 11 players in 24 years as a top flight manager. One player I don't even know from West Ham.
Yeah, but there are less signings of the 30-years-old and above bracket. That, coupled with the average age, suggest there’s a prime age focus with a desire to sign promising young players as well.

Ultimately he has always followed a pragmatic and sensible approach. The focus is on players that are mature enough to for the league but would an openness to both youth and older players when appropriate.

He doesn't really want to play youth though. He prefers older proven players. I think that is a fair assessment. Not saying he never does or has but definitely prefers older players.
