He's so far past being the old Mourinho now it's not even funny. This unbeaten season is going to end up without him actually winning anything, same as most seasons for about the last 15 years since he was one of the very best. He might do alright at Madrid because of the way they run the club, but he'd be an awful fit here.
I still think this version of Mourinho would be better than
Moyes.
He’s always had defensively solid teams, knows the prem, and is good enough to ensure we wouldn’t be dragged into a relegation scrap. What exactly could go wrong?
Young players not get developed? They’re not being developed anyway.
Fall out with owners? What has years of board and manager harmony delivered to our trophy cabinet of late?
Say a few incendiary things in a press conference? Our club’s reputation is in the toilet anyway due to 30 years of not winning anything.
I think the positives of what he could provide in terms of a mentality change, attraction for new signings, ability to go deep in cups, ability to win one off big games, would move us forward much more than another few seasons of
Moyes losing every derby, losing away at most top grounds, going out the cups early and talking about how great Liverpool and United are and why it’s too early for Everton to achieve anything any chance he gets.
I’m not saying Mourinho is my first choice, I just think it’s a bit rich that some Everton fans scoff at the suggestion whilst we’re on our longest trophy drought in our history and can barely win a derby fixture.
