2025/26 David Moyes

You could give moyes 300m to spend and you would still get the same type of performances, to set up the way he did today against a crap relegation threatened team was criminal.
This is the point, I hope we don't waste too much money on a short term manager like Moyes, because if we do manage to get a good manager in they might be hamstrung by the players at the club already.

During Moyes 10 years: 3 semi finals and 1 final. 12 years afterwards afterwards: 2 semi finals.

So we're down to saying Moyes is abysmal. Fine, but we've been even worse since with far more money to spend.

I do find it incredible how much people on this forum look down on the best manager in my life time.
I mean, in the history of Everton it's not REALLY a high bar for your lifetime. He won literally nothing with us. Most times we went out of competitions with a whimper. Honestly I blame Blue Bill more than Moyes but Moyes does nothing beyond his comfort zone. He had a really good team in his last 2 years with us but we did nothing. He, absolutely, has a ceiling and it's exactly where we are/he is. We've been in contention for Europe for the last couple weeks and we'll probably finish 12th.

I didn't say he is an abysmal manager. He's a good manager. But his cup record here is rubbish over 2 spells.

We lost multiple times to lower league opposition and 1 final in all that time is really not impressive at all. Shrewsbury, Oldham, Reading, Wigan games just a few that come into my head.

I have just never thought that cup games are a priority for Moyes.

We've both bemoaned the game against Wolves this season. I do think his hands were tied against Sunderland, but he only has himself to blame after what he did in the League Cup. Almost certain next season will be different as a consequence.

So many people on here really need to give their heads a shake.

We are off the back of some of our worst ever years, carrying the worst managers we’ve ever had and a conveyer belt of atrocious players on astronomical wages. We have had one summer transfer window to fix all this and that was a false start.

All season we have been wildly inconsistent and we have never really looked like a team capable of Europe, apart from a few fleeting moments.

The last two games have been massively disappointing and have most likely ended any idea of Europe now (city up next). Hopefully we can finish top half and I would view not as a bit of a failure. But not a hanging offence.

We need a proper summer transfer window this season as the squad is still largely bottom half material. There can be no valid excuse not to get the fullbacks we need and a decent striker. Them and few other pieces then if Moyes is still labouring then criticism of him deserves to stick. At the moment this squad is only marginally better than the past few years.
That’s a long winded way of typing “be careful what you wish for”…

For reference I only read the first sentence and a half.

He finished much higher than 12th in his previous spell and I genuinely think if he gets a couple more years he'll move us in that direction again.

Davey, time to throw the gloves in. We’ve got some decent players and unfortunately you haven’t a clue how to make a decent team out of them.
The sooner you retire the better for the team, fans and club.

Personally I think it is a big ask unless we spend a lot of money but if we sack Moyes it can be the only expectation to judge the new manager against.
As long as Moyes stays it is pointless spending money on young players. It's a hard decision for the owners. If they sack Moyes and we get relegated they'll be pilloried, but I think that's unlikely so I don't see much downside in rolling the dice.

It’s only a game…

I’m not sure Moyes is going to change his approach, even his favourite treats are from 2 centuries ago.
