2025/26 David Moyes

Can we do even better with another manager is the question.

If we can’t that would imply that Moyes is the best manager in the world that we could attract. I don’t believe Moyes career record of achievements would support that view.

We could get the next appointment wrong, we could get it right.

I’ve seen enough of Moyes teams over the years so I want to see if we can get it right.

Much appreciate the job Moyes has done in moving us away from the bottom as I did with Dyche in his first 18 months for keeping us up . The right appointments at the right time for a change.

I personally don’t get the keep Moyes & stabilise in mid table for a few years. You would have the exact same risk’s & opportunities at the end of that few years as you have at the end of this season.
What would be your minimum expectations for a manager not named David Moyes?

It does.

Not entirely sure why we would throw money at a manager with a worse points per game record and lower in the table than our current manager though.

Not you being seduced by a Spanish last name again is it?

He's been at Bourenmouth...and then he had his team sold on him and they're looking for European football.

No one in football outside of sycophantic Moyes fans sees him on the same level of coaching as Iraola.

You may be in luck, just been announced that he's leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season
As someone who wants Iraola, this is worst case scenario really in terms of him coming here. The only way Moyes doesn't stay this summer is if our season totally falls apart now and we don't get Europe, which obviously no one wants that to happen.

A lot of people won't like to hear it but I think when these opportunities come up you just have to go for it, even if it is harsh on Moyes. He's doing a great job but he's not a long term appointment for us imo. People thought it was very harsh when Bournemouth let Gary O'Neil go for Iraola in the first place, but was proven to be the right decision in the long run.

He still had his team last year and Moyes was winning more points than him then with the relegation level outfit you expected to finish 16th under Dyche.

It's just the newest pair of brown brogues for you to fantasize over.

He should be above us with that Bournemouth squad he has.

Look how much more has been invested in that squad than the one Moyes has to work with:

If anything, Iraola has been a failure if David Moyes can bring our pauper's squad anywhere close to his.

Thats how Bournemouth operate. Its not his team. They'll get a new manager who they think suits their recruitment. Thats their model. Minimum disruption when the manager moves on. And its not like they sold players and replaced with non league. Keeper was £25m. bournemouth spent more on a left back than Everton ever have. Bournemouth spent more on a centre half than Everton ever have. Their centre forward was £40m.

Interesting manager. He hasnt managed a club yet where he's been under pressure to win anything. Its been all about his style of football. Bilbao looks most obvious given his history with the club. I wonder if a really big club is about to take a chance on him. He could be anything.

Just as you ruthlessly sell good players and buy better ones, the same thing applies to managers. But to successfully do that you need ambition AND competence.

I suspect these guys are as comfy with Moyes as he is with cardigans. And I wouldn't back them to upgrade successfully. Moyes, to his credit, is difficult to upgrade - not because he's top rank, but because he brings an elevated mediocrity that puts pressure on suits to really show they have the nous required to better him. "He'll get you seventh" is very seductive in this league if you really aren't trying to crash the top six.

He bought Kevin Mirallas, a very Ndiaye type player....

Other than Barkley, which young players did he not play when he was here?

He gave premier league careers to Rodwell, Gosling, and Anichebe and going before that you can add Osman and Hibbert.

Some of these tired lines don't even pass the lightest scrutiny.
Hibbert had broken through before Moyes arrived and Osman was on loan at Derby until he was 23. That's splitting hairs though.

Of course over 11 years as manager, he did bring some young players through, but I'd say there could've been more and he could've done it earlier. It's obviously unanswerable though because we'll never know what careers people might've had. Look at Harry Kane, he was going nowhere at 20 and only played because of an injury crisis and never looked back. He's obviously a special case but what I mean is, nobody particularly saw him as having big potential, it's only by getting an unexpected run that he made it.

I don't expect him to suddenly be starting a bunch of 19 year olds but one here or there and some more sub appearances for others shouldn't have been out the question.

Anyway, I'm not here for an argument, I just think there's some valid arguments on both sides and it doesn't have to be as polarised as it often seems to get in here.

Is this squad anywhere close to crashing the top six yet?

I get the desire for ambitions greater than David Moyes, I really do, we all want us to be the best we can be.

I still think we are another year of two of quality additions to the squad before expectations can reach that level
