2025/26 David Moyes

Yeah. But what I’m trying to point out is, I don’t want it to be a one off win like Palace’s is likely to be.

This all started with one poster saying about how we should ignore the entire history of the cups and only consider last season. It’s morphed into whatever it is now, but ultimately, last year is a fluke when you look at the history of the cups, certainly in the last 30 years. I want us to be in finals year in year out. So we need to be realistic about it and get the squad to where it needs to be for that. Rather than looking at last season and thinking we could also fluke it.

I disagreed with Moyes approach in the cups this season, but we also have longer term goals. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t absolutely love to win a trophy.

Palace are favourites for the Papa John's Eurovision Conference Shield.

You’re not going to beat belting out We are the Champions at Wembley. It’s been 30 years since I got to do it
But we weren't the champions. We finished 15th that season on the same points as Coventry City and we only won 11 out of 42 games. I want to win a cup when we have a great team and we are one of the best teams in the country as demonstrated by our league position.

As should any English team that get into that cup.

But at the same time, they got knocked out to Macclesfield in their quest to retain the fa cup and are currently 2 places lower than where they finished in the league last season.

So it’s hardly buoyed them on to “stamping their ground” in the league and winning more domestic trophies.

Welcome back to the Moyes thread

Here we go 👊
Even in a good news article, famed anti-Everton gun-for-hire Hughes manages to randomly try and put any promising youngsters off joining us, before then spending two paragraphs explaining why we’ll be thrown out of whatever European competition we happen to qualify for, before ending with a paragraph pointing out that we won’t really. He’s such a nobhead.

I’m absolutely fine with another season of Moyes if the extension is only for one more year at most. That’s fair enough. I just think there’ll come a point where, as a fanbase, we’ll want to move on, and personally I’d rather he left on a high at the end of next season after helping rebuild the club to where it belongs. He could still prove me wrong and take us a step beyond that by getting us into the Champions League, and if he does, then obviously he shouldn’t be going anywhere.

The biggest question mark for me is how he’ll work with a recruitment team. Absolutely no evidence he works well with that setup, failed miserably on the transfer front at West Ham. The last thing we want is history repeating itself or, even worse, a repeat of Moyes’ West Ham, and end up with a squad full of overpaid 💩

How upset does the news of a new contract for Moyes make you on a scale of 1-10 ste?
If you read my previous posts i'm fine with it, can't deny there's question marks over how recruitment is going to work though - this is the summer we need to get it spot on - Do we go down the TFG route of buying young or the Moyes route of buying who he wants?
