2025/26 David Moyes

As moyes is recognized more at doing a good job at Everton by like manager of the month wins or nominations, his overall control of the club will expand. Getting a new contract would further enhance that. We have all seen Moyes - he is a bit of a control freak (press conferences anyone??) so the longer he is here the more of the overall club gets controlled by him. As someone who has had a long career in business, not everyone is good at everything. So the more Moyes controls, the more he will have to either be out of his wheelhouse or ismply screw up (see recruitment at WHam). On his merits he deserved us to renew his contract for 2 years this summer. He is also reaching an age where things may start to slip and the steel trap of a mind becomes a good gumming from one of Wayne's granny friends.

I’m fascinated and terrified in equal measure, as to how he will take this news 😂

I’m absolutely fine with another season of Moyes if the extension is only for one more year at most. That’s fair enough. I just think there’ll come a point where, as a fanbase, we’ll want to move on, and personally I’d rather he left on a high at the end of next season after helping rebuild the club to where it belongs. He could still prove me wrong and take us a step beyond that by getting us into the Champions League, and if he does, then obviously he shouldn’t be going anywhere.

The biggest question mark for me is how he’ll work with a recruitment team. Absolutely no evidence he works well with that setup, failed miserably on the transfer front at West Ham. The last thing we want is history repeating itself or, even worse, a repeat of Moyes’ West Ham, and end up with a squad full of overpaid 💩
Rumours are that it's a 3 year deal, with a year left on his current form will him to 2030

It also just goes to show that the Friedkin's will back a manager with a year left on their contract if they're actually getting results and not just angling for their next pay off.

That gives me some confidence in their stewardship.

I want to win lots of trophies, not just one random one. That’s why I’m talking about building a good football team that’s set up to compete for and win trophies for a prolonged period of time.
Me too! I just think a winning mentality is a big part of it, and that's what a trophy gets you. And once the club starts to be seen as winners, that attitude seeps into everything and becomes self-fulfilling

If we wanna end up with a squad suited to Moyes and Moyes only - give him control over signings

If we wanna actually progress allow the recruitment team to sign players that fit with the long term vision of the club - make sure Moyes is 100% onboard before giving him a new contract.

West Ham where trying to move toward a modern recruitment structure, while Moyes still wanted significant control and alignment with what he trusted - we cannot fall into this trap cos it's exactly what messed us up under Moshiri albeit it was interference from the owners that was the problem and less the manager at the time.
