2025/26 David Moyes

I will never understand why our first transfer last summer was a move for a RB (Tete) failed then we just gave up after that. We then tried for 2 foreign RW who were never in a million years going to play in a Moyes team the way he sets up. It was an odd window but I do take into account the full recruitment team was not assembled but still it was disjointed and we dithered and didn't really get what we needed.
I think the fact it was tete tells you it was never a priority. If it was a priority position to fill, an average PL player in his 30s and on a free was never going to be what they aimed for. Literally everything we’ve seen since day 1 of Moyes arriving has told us he’s happy with O’Brien at right back, tete was seemingly someone they thought was a better option than Patterson for back up/alternative but it seems fairly clear now that it was never a position they were looking to bring in a first choice for.

I've bored myself saying same thing on here.

When they went for Tete I thought yeah they're on it. It was either a priority or it wasn't.

Made worse by signing Alcaraz (who I like) but Moyes has made obvious he doesn't fancy.

Spend the £12m on a full back.
Alcaraz, Röhl, Aznou, Dibling... 80m between them and not one of them fancied by Moyes. At a club desperate for bodies to fill positions, that's simply an untenable situation.

Maybe but 'average PL with a bit of experience' are exactly what Moyes tends to go for, even if it was for backup why just try for one player? there are other options surely. JOB is an ok player but he is nothing special. When you have Mykolenko on the other side it immediately creates an imbalance in the side and starts to stretch the team out and almost forces the long ball as you know they are never going over the halfway line.

We'll see what happens with that in the future. Angus will be having regular meetings with the owners and their representatives. They will be interested to know why 80million pounds of assets appears to have received no game time. Angus will have no option but to tell them that it is at the managers discretion that this is the case. The executive team do have a big decision to make come the summer, especially when it seems that there is a rift between Moyes and the recruitment team. Also, there is a lot of managerial talent without a job this summer, more than usual in fact.

Yup. Summer will be the moment to show ambition. We will be as attractive as most options out there.

I’m not defending the thought process, I’m just saying I don’t think it was a coincidence. I’m not happy with O’Brien at right back but I think everything we’ve seen suggests Moyes is. Literally everything he’s done suggests so, right up to picking branthwaite at left back on Monday.

I think he was hoping the tricky young winger and new striker would come off

On that point Branthwaite was ball watching hoping Keane would deal with it and wasn't rushing back to help out.
That's rubbish. Branthwaite was high up the field where a fullback should be. He was never getting back to help Keane. Every ball in behind Tawks and Keane causes them massive problems because they are so slow. The previous Moyes defenders Yobo, Jags, Lescott and Distin would easily deal with those type of balls all day long because they were great athletes.
