There are still loads of really good footballers. The idea that league used to be full of absolute maverick ballers is just nonsense. It was full of mediocre cloggers like Kevin Nolan, Ryan Shawcross and Lee Cattermole. The likes of whom just don’t get in Prem sides anymore.

You can argue about which you prefer to watch, but you can’t argue that English teams don’t have a better record in Europe than Italian teams over the last 5 years say.

This in a nutshell.

I don't think it is even a Moyes thing, we don't seem to have had a consistent method of transitioning and cohering the striker with the 'attacking' midfielders since Martinez (maybe a spell at start of the season under Carlo) so the striker is feeding off scraps and permanently outnumbered by opposition defenders. 4 2 3 1 seems not to work but is the dominant style played now, is our problem we have never really had the '10' to do this (irony given we tried signing 4 or 5 of them one summer).

Exactly! I think it is partly because we have, since Martinez hired a string of inherently negative managers. Carlo was at least a good enough manager to know the other end matters as much as the defence.

Time I think for an attacking coach to get the best out of the players we have. Anyone who watched rhe game last night must surely realise that players like Barry would almost certainly be one of those players who would go to Bournemouth and tear it up. They just never seem to here (with the exception of defenders who do for obvious reasons).

You're saying that a man who's won the league in 3 different countries, the Champions League, the Nations League, 13 major domestic trophies, has over 100 caps for Portugal, has been named in the World XI, the Champions League XI, and has made the top 10 of the ballon d'or rankings twice would just be an average midfielder if he was playing in 'loads' of European leagues?
