2025/26 David Moyes

Who developed Rice? Pellegrini.

What managers are better than Moyes? Its 11pm and that list will have me busy until tomorrow morning.

I dont mind Moyes but he is not selecting players on merit. He is not developing young players. Negative team selections.

Gets old, fast.

But Pellegrini developed him🤣

Or, those of us who said he should either get us to Europe or develop players can look at the use of his favourites, not using players he signed and not selecting players on merit...

...and see utterly pathetic first halves 2 games running where the manager has been lucky not to see us ship anywhere between 3 and 6 goals.

Imagine where we'd be with a manager who wasnt such a coward, knew how to develop players and selected teams based on merit or tactics.

Im bewildered how people are praising Moyes for the last 2 games where weve pulled out results despite him.

Spot on.

No doubt this time last year you'd have been saying Thomas Frank was one of those managers and look how that's worked out for Spurs.

Who would you realistically bring in to replace Moyes this summer?

I think some of that Spurs squad are still recovering from playing Angeball hence they have so many injuries this season. I would still have expected Frank to do a little better than they have but no doubt they are struggling for bodies.

People are allowed to criticise and still support the club. Also if you don’t analyse things, then things will never improve. That goes for all walks of life. If they accept we’re safe, we win more than a third of our games, stop moaning, then we won’t understand what’s needed to push on.

Did I read correct, that Moyes admitted he’d have been happy with a point before the game? I think that sums up his mindset and it’s why for games like Brighton and Fulham, fans get annoyed with team selections, because he is clearly playing to not get beat, whereas we as fans feel that the win is there for the taking.

The team can clearly play on the front foot when we are behind, but we seem unable to do, before going behind. Having said that we started the game well yesterday, and for maybe 10 mins it seemed we were the better side, but Fulham grew in to the game and with better finishing would have been out of sight at half time. So that suggests to me it’s maybe not a motivational issue, but a tactical one, so once Fulham were able to get a hold of the game they were clearly on top tactically.

Same happened at Brighton second half, we came out all guns firing, created chances, and they looked wide open, KDH missed that chance and then they went and scored and we fell apart completely and couldn’t get going. Snatching it at the end when we gambled.

Moyes is like a big step up from dyche and alladyce. He sets the team up not to concede and as long as you have some good players in the side then you’ve got a chance at scoring. I always feel his teams need to work hard to score goals.

The bit I’m struggling to understand is that we look much more solid without Gueye and Keane. Gueye seems to have a free role and pops up all over the pitch like it’s his testimonial, but he leaves big gaps in the midfield. I’m honestly not sure what his role is supposed to be, because when he doesn’t play the replacement doesn’t do the same thing. Garner has to cover a lot more defensively when Gueye is in the side. Garner has been one of, it not our best player this season, so to lose some of his impact for Gueye makes no sense.

When Keane plays we look wide open at the back. He’s got no agility and is too slow to move his feet, so he’s slow to react. Tarkowski seems slow as well, so when the two of them play, strikers run off the shoulder constantly as neither will recover, so if it’s a good ball they’re in. If JOB or Branthwaite play, they’re more mobile, quicker to react and also quicker to close the gaps before they widen. JOB has shown he should be first choice (while JB was out) but he’s the one who keeps being moved. I feel Tarkowski gets the nod for leadership, but I’d still rather the two giants were playing when available.

That’s the bit I don’t understand with Moyes, he prides himself on setting up a solid side, tough to break down which will work hard, but he bends over backwards to include two players who don’t fit this system. I thought the Villa game would have given a hint at what a more mobile side can achieve, but he changed it straight after and I don’t think we’ve seen Rohl since either.

We know what we’ll get with Moyes, but we also know what we won’t get. Without that hope it’s difficult to get behind him longer term. It’ll be a brave decision to change him, and I fully expect to see him see out his contract at least, but in the meantime if he had a bit more confidence in the side then I think we could push on more. Our first 11 - bar the full backs - is the best we’ve had for a while now.
Why Moyes says in public and behind closed doors are likely very different things. There’s no way he survived in the game so long by being either a blowhard or a church mouse.

It amazes me that some folk still don’t get this.

Don't think the Spurs fans would be as charitable in their evaluations.

It’s kind of a pathetic thing to say, really.

On Moyes’ Role in His Development (July 2020): Declan Rice: “David Moyes has been fantastic for me. He’s helped me improve a lot in terms of my understanding of the game and my positional play. He’s given me the opportunity to play regularly and I’m very grateful for that.”

On Learning Under Moyes’ Tactical Approach (May 2021): Declan Rice: “Moyes has taught me a lot. He’s a manager who focuses on the details and I’ve learned so much from him, especially defensively. The way he sets up the team to be solid and disciplined is something I really admire. His tactical awareness is amazing.”

On Moyes’ Impact During Challenging Periods (April 2021): Declan Rice: “He’s a massive reason for our success this season. When things are tough, he knows exactly how to keep the group together and keep us focused. He’s a great leader and his calmness under pressure is something I’ve learned a lot from.”

On Their Relationship After His Move to Arsenal (July 2023): Declan Rice: “David Moyes was a massive influence on me. He gave me the chance when I was young, and I’ll forever be grateful for that. I’ve learned so much from him, not just as a player, but also as a person. I’ll always respect him and what he did for me.”

On His Departure from West Ham (July 2023): Declan Rice: “Leaving West Ham was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. I’m grateful for everything the club and David Moyes did for me. He took a chance on me, and I’ll never forget that. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his belief in me.”

Spurs are an absolute Graveyard for managers.

I've never understood managers who's leave clubs were they're doing well to take up a job there.

They're fans are more impatient than ours purely because they've been convinced by Sky that they're top 6 six club when in essence they're a middle table side.

Don't get wrong they turn a pound financially but that has always seemed to be their main aim,The togger comes secondary.

I don't see him extending beyond 2027 and that's fine. Think that then would be 2 and a bit years of pure stability ready for a new manager to come in and try let the team play more free.

I guess so too, gives us time to get some players that can play a better brand of football, we are really not spoiled of them...

Doesn't develop players though mate 🤷

Let also ignore the job he's done on James Garner this season, another centre midfielder.

Scary thing is the likes of Dave know they're on a windup half the time,Zat absolutely believes everything he say with an extreme confidence.

Oh we can definitely play an XI that could shine. Just not under Moyes.

Wish we would approach the home games a bit differently at times, but I see this team rather suited to the Moyes style than anyone like de Zerbi or so...

It's better than 2 seasons ago, but the amount of simple balls that don't find the teammate is frightening at times.

So in just over 12 months he’s been here, the club has moved grounds, had new owners, had 2 and a half windows, a complete squad rebuild, spent £113m to re build the squad, inherited a squad that’s been fighting relegation, turned the away record around and currently has us sitting in 8th but it’s not deemed good enough by some of the fanbase.

The home record could be better but surely everyone knew it would be a struggle winning at home in a new stadium. It takes time to adapt to new stadiums.

The style of football isn’t great to watch at times but it’s effective and winning games that under previous managers would have lost.

Under this manager, and current squad. We are literally about 4 players away from constantly challenging for top 8 places and hopefully a cup win. This summer window is massive and if we get a RB, LB, CF and a midfielder, will have a good team that competes.
