2025/26 David Moyes

You wouldn’t think so on this forum, so may want us to fail just to be proved right.
So many fans wanting the likes of Glasner and Iraola is laughable when they are both being schooled by Moyes and officially the smallest squad in the premier league.Luckily for Moyes and the players very few of them actually go the game.
Do you feel there’s a correlation between “most angry fans on here” and “don’t go the game” friend?

I'm not generally a fan of his and wasn't when he was here the first time either but atm I probably register closest to this tbh. There is going too be much managerial upheaval across the board this summer, it will be interesting to see who does actually become available and what interest they command. TFG might decide a more longer term target is on the market and want to make a move for them. Or they might stick with Moyes and let him see his other year out. Another thing is the world cup, there will be managers knocking abut after that. Steve Clarke is likely too walk regardless of what happens with Scotland, given his age it might be Moyes one chance too take the national team role (that's if he wants it) All of that is a lot of if's and but's so I'm happy too sit and wait for the moment and play the season out, hopefully we can scrape a Europa place (Id rather avoid the Conference tbh) the league is so tight this year and we just need to keep pushing.
I think probably the most of us are in that section.

A big part, which most people mention, is that he is a former manager that already carries past opinions.

He has been involved in our lives from day 1 of this Forum..

...he's a divisive figure.

You give him two more seasons to get us a European place then if he doesn’t he’s gone.
Dunno, I'd need to have a think about that. This season the target should have definitely been mid-table security without even a whiff of a relegation scrap. I'm happy that we've achieved that so far.

Target for next season? I think I'd want us in the mix for European football. Would I want him gone if we didn't achieve it? Not sure - maybe it would depend on the circumstances of the season.

Overly cautious
Stifled by a fear of losing
Conservative team selections
Square pegs in round holes

Is there a manager who doesn't get these criticisms from elements of their fanbase? People should realise that the constant free-flowing, front foot, attacking team of their dreams doesn't actually exist outside highlights packages and lazy narrative.

I'd imagine we all watch 90 minutes of Everton a lot more frequently than we watch 90 minutes of any other team. We don't as often see all the positives and negatives a full game shows us and certainly not with the same attention or detail we watch Everton with. And we probably all have opinions on things that mean we are subconsciously slightly selective about what we see or don't see.

Regardless of who comes in there will be the same accusations after 6 months as the sad truth is that football is essentially a quite dull game for large parts interrupted by occasional outbreaks of excitement.

If it's the guy you like in charge you'll judge him on the exciting bits. If it's the guy you don't like you'll judge him on the dull part.

I don’t see a long-term plan in keeping David Moyes beyond his contract. People will tolerate turgid performances as long as the results come, but all it takes is one underperforming season and the mood will turn quickly, just like it did at West Ham.

If players are hesitant to stay because Moyes is nearing the end of his contract, that’s a damning situation. Let’s hope TFG have more ambition for a post-Moyes Everton than some of the fanbase.
Think it’s just the uncertainty it brings. Look at Liverpools results when Klopp said he was leaving. Look at Palace when Glasner said he wasn’t staying. It impacts players knowing the manager won’t be around and I can’t see us going into next season without either giving him a new deal or replacing him.

People are allowed to criticise and still support the club. Also if you don’t analyse things, then things will never improve. That goes for all walks of life. If they accept we’re safe, we win more than a third of our games, stop moaning, then we won’t understand what’s needed to push on.

Did I read correct, that Moyes admitted he’d have been happy with a point before the game? I think that sums up his mindset and it’s why for games like Brighton and Fulham, fans get annoyed with team selections, because he is clearly playing to not get beat, whereas we as fans feel that the win is there for the taking.

The team can clearly play on the front foot when we are behind, but we seem unable to do, before going behind. Having said that we started the game well yesterday, and for maybe 10 mins it seemed we were the better side, but Fulham grew in to the game and with better finishing would have been out of sight at half time. So that suggests to me it’s maybe not a motivational issue, but a tactical one, so once Fulham were able to get a hold of the game they were clearly on top tactically.

Same happened at Brighton second half, we came out all guns firing, created chances, and they looked wide open, KDH missed that chance and then they went and scored and we fell apart completely and couldn’t get going. Snatching it at the end when we gambled.

Moyes is like a big step up from dyche and alladyce. He sets the team up not to concede and as long as you have some good players in the side then you’ve got a chance at scoring. I always feel his teams need to work hard to score goals.

The bit I’m struggling to understand is that we look much more solid without Gueye and Keane. Gueye seems to have a free role and pops up all over the pitch like it’s his testimonial, but he leaves big gaps in the midfield. I’m honestly not sure what his role is supposed to be, because when he doesn’t play the replacement doesn’t do the same thing. Garner has to cover a lot more defensively when Gueye is in the side. Garner has been one of, it not our best player this season, so to lose some of his impact for Gueye makes no sense.

When Keane plays we look wide open at the back. He’s got no agility and is too slow to move his feet, so he’s slow to react. Tarkowski seems slow as well, so when the two of them play, strikers run off the shoulder constantly as neither will recover, so if it’s a good ball they’re in. If JOB or Branthwaite play, they’re more mobile, quicker to react and also quicker to close the gaps before they widen. JOB has shown he should be first choice (while JB was out) but he’s the one who keeps being moved. I feel Tarkowski gets the nod for leadership, but I’d still rather the two giants were playing when available.

That’s the bit I don’t understand with Moyes, he prides himself on setting up a solid side, tough to break down which will work hard, but he bends over backwards to include two players who don’t fit this system. I thought the Villa game would have given a hint at what a more mobile side can achieve, but he changed it straight after and I don’t think we’ve seen Rohl since either.

We know what we’ll get with Moyes, but we also know what we won’t get. Without that hope it’s difficult to get behind him longer term. It’ll be a brave decision to change him, and I fully expect to see him see out his contract at least, but in the meantime if he had a bit more confidence in the side then I think we could push on more. Our first 11 - bar the full backs - is the best we’ve had for a while now.

Putting aside everyone’s opinions on Moyes it feels to me that we haven’t moved on from the Kenwright era but obviously don’t know how it feels working within the club.

Moyes, supported by Baines & Coleman, are the key men on the playing side & in the latter cases spent their whole careers within the Kenwright bubble.

I wonder if TFG might want a change in the Summer irrespective of Moyes performance simply to change the culture of the club.
