2025/26 David Moyes

The other question mark for me is Jack Grealish. I would be very surprised if Moyes did not want to keep him at the end of the season because he can provide the individual flair that is fundamental to Moyes attacking strategy. Any fee & wages would be significant.

A future manager who wishes to play a more dynamic style on the front foot might not see a use for Grealish as he usually slows the play down.

We are in danger of going back to a mishmash of players bought for different football styles/systems.

Or Moyes is here for another 10 years 😱 in which case we shouldn’t have bought any of the youngsters.

- The Leeds player crosses & there are 3 players in the box when they score
- When DCL hit the post there were 6 of their players attacking the box with 4 in it
I just don’t get what Moyes is trying to do or what he is coaching other than launching it forwards or hoping for some individual flair.
On the positive side he is a great at blocking passing lanes & stopping the other team playing.

Sure it will get you 40 points every year & may get Europe occasionally depending upon the quality of the other teams but there is little enjoyment & no hope of any type of success.

If you are happy with that then so be it. I would prefer some enjoyment & hope.
The vast majority of PL teams can do that if they wanted. Putting players behind the ball to neutralise the opposition and limit them to a couple of chances and waiting for a chance or two of your own to pop up in 90 minutes + of football is pretty basic stuff for good professionals - and we have enough of them.

The question is how do we move on from that? What happened against Leeds first half was predictable: at home and expected to get more on the front foot and we got ran rings round by a bottom feeder club. And Leeds at home wasn't the first time either.

What we need is a coach who can teach players to pass to each other and at pace. Moyes is not that coach. He just isn't and he never ever will be. It's why he is rightly classified as a dinosaur. We have a 20th century manager playing 19th century football in the 21st century.

Did we change manager in the 2nd half? Because it was the opposite of the first half, so something must have changed. As you said, Moyes only has one way of playing. There were a few really quick one twos and chances created in the 2nd half. So, who was managing us in the 2nd half?

He got it wrong in the first half, along with the players not doing the basics. It was changed and it was better, not perfect but a lot better.

He belatedly realised - or was told - that if we matched Leeds up like for like our superior players would make it work in our favour.

In-game Farke showed him a clean pair of heels again though when for the last 10 minutes or so he went to a flat back four and changed the match again to his own teams benefit and neutralised Everton's head of steam when looking for the winner.

Even a limited coach like Farke can match and even outwit our manager.

Moyes cant think clearly in a game. Look at how he turns to his coaches to tell him what's going on. Baines especially first half last game.

But the bigger issue is why we cant pass sharply and accurately to each other. Our players are no worse than Leeds - better overall in fact. So how are Leeds handing us a passing masterclass first half? I cant think of too many times we did that this season to other teams apart from Wolves and Bournemouth away.

Moyes cant put together a team that possesses the ball and moves it at pace. If we want to progress then we need a change of coach. Simple as that.

It was worrying that when Farke switched again at the end they completely dominated us again at which point we had all the players on the pitch that had been missing that had allegedly been the reason for the poor recent performances.
