2025/26 David Moyes

I think it's crazier that any Everton fan with knowledge of the last 30yrs would be surprised that Moyes coming back would not be greeted with much joy by some of the fan base.

Hardly anybody bar a couple of the usual cranks are sayng sack now, most would prefer a change in the summer tho

On the forum I see only a little bit of really strong support. Off the forum I don't know anybody who is particularly happy to have him back.

Why would this be a suprise to anybody, I don't know but it seems to be for some reason

Choose Moyes and you choose a split in the fans that would only get more loaded on one side with every real or perceived failure. They chose Moyes, we got this.

Choose a new manager pls, then I hope the fan base can settle down and shut up for a couple of seasons while they do their job
You can’t be serious?. Our fan base will want a new managers head within weeks haha

I just look at his purchases and the way we set up as a team. We lack pace, we lack flair, we lack fullback width and we don't really have a proven creator as of yet. What do we have? A billion competent center midfielders. Less than half of them can see game time because of the cup exits and the lack of European football.

We overloaded the position without a good reason for doing so and brought in a backup right midfielder and left back to boot instead of actually addressing the fullback positions or getting pace for the wings to compensate for the lack of fullback play. We have talent but we are stacked in one position and are incredibly lacking different options for others. The transfer window alone is good enough reason to let him go at the end of the season.

yeah i think theres some relative patience as moyes has money in the bank from his first spell an the turnaround job he did last season

if a new manager didnt have us in the european places by christmas next season fans would be calling for his head

Follow your own logic. If you think the fans are not going to be patient for a new manager, then why would you be surprised that they are not patient for Moyes of all people?!

IMO if the goal was a calm stable period then Moyes was the next worst choice after the Benitez/Allardyce level appointment

Where I might be wrong is in the hope that after all this mess the last few years the fanbase was really ready for a period of patience, it’s just its not been given a chance as everybody has an understandably strong opinion on Moyes. Any poor run of form the tolerance shown disappears as on top of enduring whatever the current issue is, everybody feels they know for certain what to expect going forward. There’s no real hope or inspiration.

I’d think the opposite of you, I think those who are happy with Moyes are so over the moon they are underestimating how little a lot of other fans think of him, and how many of the fans think like that.

It was an okay choice for manager, and turned out great last season but he will get very little patience from even quite even-tempered fans

If the performances are c**p & we get overrun by newly promoted teams then they will & quite rightly.
This isn't new. It is not just a Moyes problem.

We've been very bad for a long time. The great Carlo Ancelotti saw us lose to the likes of Sheffield Utd at home.

In many respects the managerial appointment is only part of the picture. Strengthening the squad also has to happen. And boy, do we need to buy better than in the mid 10s and earky 20s by and large.

Fair comment. However we need a manager who has a plan/system so we can buy/coach to the plan/system. I don’t see any system/plan apart from launching it to a front money & picking up 2nd balls. It’s the same system Moyes was using 30 years ago.

It depends...if we were starting our young players and were creating chances and playing fast, slick football but not winning, I think we could see progress being made...

Most fans are like that now. Lots of Arsenal fans want Arteta out. Lots of Newcastle fans want howe gone now. At the start of the season i heard villa fans say Emery had lost it.
Most fans are world class managers lol.

I think we are talking about slightly different things.

I don’t disagree that football fans in general are impatient

In my opinion I think we were ready for a period of patience and calm in general, and possibly am overly optimistic in thinking we would be much more relaxed right now overall if this season was happening under a new manager. As we could have some sense of hope in what might come next under a new unknown quantity with new owners.

But for me we lost a real chance of that by picking somebody that lots of people were against to begin with (and I think with fair reason, as if you can’t draw an opinion of a manager after 10 seasons or whatever then when can you)

I don’t think the current moaning is just generally related to an impatient fanbase. I think it’s perfectly normal and specifically related to this one manager they chose. It’s why the constant shouts of “don’t you know the state we’ve been in recently” are annoying. Us being in a mess does not automatically mean people forget how much they dislike or were tired of a manager and his ways. If anything I think the choice has possibly lost us the opportunity of the one moment in time when the vast majority could have come together and said “right, let’s give this guy a couple seasons and let’s see”

This is true. If anything possibly this thread should be half dead and it should all be about who is coming in this window and the next. As both Moyes and any possible next manager are going to playing from that deck of cards, and if it remains badly flawed any manager will be severely restricted in what they can do
