2025/26 David Moyes

The issue isn't whether the team is ready for European football, it's whether the manager has any clue at all.
Four consecutive games of pathetic first-halves and the genius still hasn't figured out why.
You mean like missing half a team for a good month?
The performance improved when we finally managed to get more quality on the pitch. We are at least 3-4 players short from challenging for Europe.

Leeds set up & played as expected, no surprises.

Yet it seemed a big surprise to Moyes whose big idea at halftime was to copy them although he didn’t use the players he has to play that system.

We are going nowhere because he can get it right one week & hopelessly wrong the next irrelevant of the quality of the opposition & irrespective of the players he has available.

You see how quickly he managed to get O’Brien back in at RB last night.

One stubborn dour manager.

….that was a back 3 to match them and stem their flow of attacks and possession, something I suggested should happen at half-time and one that clearly worked.

His in-game management was good, maybe Aznou could’ve been better as a WB than Mykolenko but he exposed the other flank taking Patterson off for Dibling and probably didn’t want that defensive risk on both wings.

Whilst his tactical changes did the trick defensively, his substitutions arguably never really made us significantly more potent as an attacking force.

Yes stem the flow of this amazing Leeds team, who’ve won one away all season and will definitely be in the bottom 6
Take me hat of to Moyes what a manager

Moyes needs to come up with a plan B when we are to take the game to the opposition. He can’t keep playing his Plan A against both the stronger & weaker teams (although he has for 30 years🥺).

Some things are clear:
- Dyche got the best out of O’Neil, Moyes can’t & so shouldn’t be playing him.
- Myko should only play when we are playing Keep it Tight & try to nick one. He has no attacking attributes
- Gueye should be phased out, he prevents Garner operating effectively. Garner has been our best player the last few weeks, but as soon as Gueye is available, Moyes brings him back to Garners detriment.
- KDH should not be playing as a 10. Which again happens because Moyes wants to play Garner/Gueye

Moyes can do plan A. Perhaps he could try some variation of the below when we should be on the front foot.

O’Brian Tarkowski Branthwaite
Garner
Ndayie Rohl KDH Aznou
Alcarez(or Dibling)
Barry

Can’t agree his in game management was good. We were lucky to still be in the game at halftime when he changed it. It was clear after 15 minutes that the set up was all wrong & he waited a further 30 minutes to change it. He could have gone 3 at the back with Myko & brought on Aznou for McNeil or Patterson after 15 20 minutes. He got lucky that DCL still can’t finish.

Wish I could say I’m surprised he doesn’t have some of these options in mind ahead of a game in case he needs to change it, but sadly I am not.

….i think that’s fair, we were fortunate to be only 0-1 at the break so he could’ve changed it earlier. I was continually posting on the match thread that we were being overrun and had to match their system but at least he did it at HT.

It was a bit like the Brentford game but fortunately Leeds were not as good as Brentford.

So with these quality players making a difference is McNeil going out on loan with Armstrong as well then? Those were the 2 Moyes hauled off at half time, both played in positions which don’t suit them btw.
