2025/26 David Moyes

I'm so up and down on Moyes. We don't play the best footy week in week out, but clearly he gets the players behind him and we occasionally pull out great performances and results.

His under-utilisation of younger players and unwillingness to change things always stings.
It's like watching prime Barca compared to the first half of last season
Happy enough with that right now

You basically said it. He is average. Some good traits, some bad. Meh. We won't really progress or challenge with him at the helm. You can thank him for keeping us stable and wish him farewell after the season. He did what he was capable of.
But we have progressed under him. We were 17th after 3 relegation battles in a row.

He got us out of a relegation scrap in the first half season. This season stabilises us. Then it’s about whether he can progress us further. He hasn’t “kept” us stable yet because there hasn’t been any stability to keep.

If we finish 10/11th this season and then he does the same next season, then that’s him keeping us stable.

David Moyes keeps us clear of relegation and also clear of winning trophies, if you want to just watch a game of footy every week then he's the man.
If you want us to push on and become a regular top team again then he's not the man for that IMO.

Just to add he is partly responsible for the lack of ambition our fanbase have, like being content with not being in a relegation battle.

I would say he has done well on balance given the impact of a Afcon on us. Has any other team been impacted as much in terms of missing quality? N’Diaye is our one of two best players and Gana our best enforcer. Both have ended up making it to the final. We then have injuries…..we’ve been without Branthwaite all season and again got hit with injuries with our other two best outfield players in KDH and Grealish.

I’m not sure any other club has been decimated as much as we have in that we have sustained significantgame time to our best five outfield players at the same time. Being 10th is no mean feat.

On the negative side, looking like not buying full backs again and treating the league cup so cheaply are black marks against this season (as well as previous seasons)

Not even Pep is doing this btw. Don’t know why people think we’ll ever get back there.

I’m not content with not just being in a relegation scrap. But this is literally the first season in like 5 years that we don’t actually have a worry around relegation.

If he gets mid table this season and around 55 points, then he has made good progression. That needs to be the building block to pushing on. And if he gets us there, then he probably deserves that shot in the final year of his contract.

I do think we will replace him this summer, because going into the final year of a managers contract rarely goes well. But I also think we could end up regretting it (like West Ham did - twice).

City still in all 4 comps this season, When i say become a top team again i mean competing in latter stages of the cups and pick up 1 or 2 cups in the next few years and be in and around the CL places quite regular.

That's doable, with the right managerial appointment and good scouting.
Easier said than done but its doable within 3-4 years.

Newcastle have done it
Villa are getting there

I just think people need to be more realistic. Whilst other teams have done it temporarily recently, they’re just two more teams + the big ones we need to try move away from, all whilst they get new shiny managers and new shiny toys.

A lot has to go very, very right for us to get back anywhere near there.

Well it’s not, is it? How many teams have actually broken the monopoly?
There is some truth in this. The game is scripted to favour certain teams. This is the ffp rules but also institutional within the Premier League ( clear biased refereeing for decades). The only way to break out is to super spend and get on ‘the board’….

The game was rigged in Everton's favour once and we fell out of it to be replaced by clubs like Chelsea and City. Newcastle will eventually breakthrough into the elite.

It's going to take another takeover but the pieces are falling into place for that to happen.

All that's solid melts into air.
