2025/26 David Moyes

…I can highlight his weakness and still think he did fine in a game. Indeed, it would be a bit daft and blinkered to say otherwise.

I’m not a fan in the least, I think he can be a liability but he did fine last night and I do think it improves the balance of the team to have a conventional RB. It demonstrates (to me) how much difference quality full-backs could make to this team if we can find them.
Do you think if we played with everyone behind the ball like that yesterday that O'Brien couldn't do what Patterson did all game?

The question is not whether any professional footballer called a RB can sit in behind a winger all game and not do much wrong, the question is WHAT DO THEY HAVE TO OFFER besides that.

You'll see when Ndiaye gets back from AFCON who Moyes wants in behind him at RB again. It wont be Patterson.

Litmus test with Moyes now will be whether he brings Keane straight back in to centre back and O'Brian back out to right back ...

With Ndiaye returning at RW - there's no debate to be had. We'd be far too exposed on the right because Ndiaye wouldn't be prepared to do the defensive shift that was foisted upon Dibling and McNeill in recent games - and in any case we'll be expected to come out and play a lot more at home and not sit back in a low block.

Greater defensive nous is the order of the day across the whole of the back four against Leeds. We cant have any passengers.

Ndiaye does his defensive duties well imo, anyways Keane misses Leeds so will defo still be O'Brien alongside Tarkowski. Patterson never fills me with confidence though, he's done okay since coming in given his lack of game time. But with that said, he'll actually have a winger ahead of him with real quality and who will pin their left flank back, so Patterson may actually get a chance to overlap and get crosses in.

Nathan Patterson Stats against Aston Villa 🔵

Won 3/4 ground duels
Won 3/3 aerial duels
10 defensive contributions
Dribbled past 0
Passing Accuracy 17/22

I did notice his heading. He was very aggressive attacking the ball although his actual heading has room for improvement.

Jake O’Brien needs to stay central for his pace so if Moyes doesn’t fancy Patterson he needs to find a different solution to O’Brien.

Look at the results with JOB at rb versus him at CB and You best Scottish pal at RB - it’s night and day.

Calling people passengers after they’ve just helped secure a 1-0 away win at Villa is tremendous, even for you.

Illy defends from the front anyway, he drives the press, you clown

That's exactly what Patterson wont want: he's 'fine' if he has a chaperone all game. Ndiaye will track back at times but he wont do that as much as say McNeill or Dibling did.

IMO Patterson steps out again for Leeds.

Yeah mate, he was 'fine', 'solid'.

...with everyone behind the ball.

Even a dullard like Moyes sees that and I suspect he'll be out again ASAP when we need to be more attacking.

I hope you don't mind my asking mate but, do you talk to people outside of online/GOT? I only ask because you seem to completely misunderstand how humans work. Allow me to explain, its really quite simple. You see, most of us tend to get annoyed after a loss/bad result and so post/talk less about it then we would after a win/good result that made us happy. I promise you that this is perfectly normal. What's less normal however is the folk who have adopted the same trait of posting more when happy, but tend to do so after a bad results as though that made them more happy then the good ones. Its fascinating and I agree that they should he examined professionally, purely in the name of science as you say........
what is this third space you speak of?
