2025/26 David Moyes

How many points better off are we this season compared to this time last year ?

This is just after Moyes second game (loss vs Villa, win vs Spurs)

Someone summed it up in a nutshell earlier in the thread: we're better away from home and coming up with these unforeseen quality wins against good sides, because we do better when we don't have to take the initiative.

We need to sort the home form out still - and it's probably a combination of the current limitations in the squad - and the manager.

I know people love a bit of recency bias, but come on - it's not that hard.

Anyhoo - was stuck in traffic driving back from the mountains yesterday, so I shall now stick the replay of MOTD2 on and enjoy.

Have a lovely day, everyone.

He's done a great job, but actually it's only one fewer defeat than this time last season. We just couldn't score for toffee and that's why we had so few victories and so many draws. If we'd have turned four of those draws into wins it would have been 29 points, but we had two badly-misfiring strikers in Beto and Calvin only. Thankfully Barry is improving all the time and we have better quality in the squad, so it should be fully expected that Moyes brings us a much better points haul.

Was this written by Sean Dyche.

I mean, we have kicked on this season quite a bit haven’t we? Considering the squad was left so paper thin and short in several areas I actually don’t know what more people were expecting. We are a strange, strange fanbase at times. We have no idea what we want or what realistic expectations look like, one minute we’re being told we can’t expect any better than 17th and 36 points, then 12 months later we’re complaining that within touching distance of a European place isn’t good enough. At the very worst you can say where we are right now is par for the course, realistically.
Mate, Moyes is light years ahead of the previous blagger we had in the dugout, and we have got so much better, but there’s still issues, and we should expect more when the league is a bad as it is.

We should be even higher up the table than we are, and solid in the race for Europe, not just flirting with the idea.

He should resign after that team selection today.

The only way Patterson should be on that pitch - if he absolutely has to be (which he doesn't) - was by having Dibling or Garner in front of him to basically play RB for him all game.

Dumb and Dumberer on that right flank today is a sackable offence IMO.
You might be the Dumbest to be honest, Davek.

Full disclosure [and I’m not trying to question your character]: Do you believe even 10% of what you post?

Sound like Dyche

“If you add some wins to the run, it’s not that bad”

It was bad. 17 points form 19.

Hang on. Barry was a Sunday league player before we kicked off yesterday apparently.

It's pretty crap like to be fair. Barry, McNeil, Patterson, Mykolenko are all Sunday League players at best.

So just to clarify, were you expecting us to have no issues at this stage of the season? With a squad so desperately short of numbers and depth in several key areas, no proper full backs, and crap strikers? And over the last month, up to EIGHT first teamers and some of our best players all missing at the same time?

What was your prediction at the start of the season? I keep hearing that the league is bad, but from what I’ve observed it’s a lot stronger than it has been for a while. Teams like Brentford and even Man Utd are much improved from last season.

I'd ignore it.

I used to think he was just being contrary (and I hate it when people do that), but I'm now convinced he's a Liverpool fan on the wind up.

….Dave is definitely an Evertonian, have no doubt about that, it’s just that he has entrenched views and he’ll defend them rather than accept reality. He can also be a bit of a dummy when it comes to understanding the playing side of things.
