I'd have Moyes out of the club in a heartbeat, but I am more concerned by the owners and how this club is run. The stadium has been used as the great distractor over the last 12 months. Yet, the competent professionals who were supposed to steer this club back to greatness were still on gardening leave waiting to start their new roles when our summer window was closing. We then spent less than we had apparently budgeted for, all the while prioritising players for the future when we didn't have enough full backs for the present. Going out of the cups to Wolves and Sunderland at the first hurdle is not progress. Being 12th when that's where the despised Sean Dyche had us eighteen months ago is not progress.
Forget the manager. What have these new owners done to materially change the record on the pitch? They don't even turn up to watch us. Their focus seems exclusively on off-field activity, stadium sponsorships, catering deals, fourth kit launches... Great, you say: all vital and much-needed income. But is it going on players or is it going on fattening up our balance sheet for a flip in a few years?
This club has been pulling the wool over people's eyes with that new stadium. We now seem to be a venue rather than a football club with a team that makes us an attraction. Instead of marveling at our players and their play, we marvel at some architecture. Might as well visit the Sistine Chapel. Might meet Dan there as he actually visits Rome now and then.
