David Moyes

Appointed Everton manager when I was 10/11, so was manager when I started 'paying attention' to football and my dad got me a season ticket in time for the season we finished 4th.

My best memories of Everton are under Moyes: the Goodison European nights, trips to Wembley, the Carsley and Gosling derbies. The lows under Moyes were never as bad as the lows we’ve experienced recently: that Wigan FA cup QF though

Maybe my memory is a bit rose tinted, but he did a very good job for Everton considering where we were when he took over. In my opinion we played some fantastic football when we had the likes of Baines, Pienaar, Arteta, Osman and Fellaini taking the pish out of teams. It felt like the right time when he left, but apart from the fabled 72 point season we’ve not come close to where we were under him.

He'll keep West Ham as regular top half/European league finishes IMO, but even given all the money in the world I’m not sure he could push on from there.

Hello and I appreciate being allowed on to your site.

I have a question. Apologies if others have asked before. But after a while, did you get tired of Moyes' tactics, stubborn-ness and the standard of football under him ?

You'll be aware of the divide it's causing amongst us West Ham fans. True, he won us a trophy but with the exception of Fiorentina in the final, in which we were very lucky, the standard of opposition was average at best.

My own view is that he's sucking the life out of us. As for the 'be careful what you wish for' and 'safe pair of hands' spouted out by his mates in the media, I don't buy into it.

Thanks in advance and good luck for the rest of the season.
I liked him but he’d reached his ceiling imo

He should have done far more at West Ham given the squads he’s had

West Ham have always been relegation contenders. Barely finished top 6th their entire history.
Choice is really, battle it out higher up the the table with a pragmatist or be a yo-yo club with a weak centre playing some mythical champagne football that no one outside of east London has ever noticed

More than what? Winning the trophy, and finishing top 6?
He has a better squad then spurs, Man City, rs, arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd?
He is doing as good as anyone would expect a manager to do… fans just don’t live in the real world?

I never understand the hate that Moyes gets from general football supporters and think most of it is based on a difficult time at United that is misunderstood.

If you think that he came into a club that was effectively ran by Ferguson and it’s clear that they couldn’t operate initially (or still to this day) because he wanted the likes of Bale, Fabregas and Kroos but the club couldn’t get the deals done for his because it had no football operations department after Ferguson left and they ended up with Fellaini from us.

Fast forward to West Ham and they didn’t realise how good they had it under Moyes and ended up going back to him. Since then he has lifted them to a comfortable position in the league with a mix of his usual hard workers and now started to try and sprinkle in talent with the likes of Paqueta and Kudus. If West Ham could find a striker that is consistent they would be doing what Villa are doing this season in my view.

In his 12 seasons at Everton, 9 of them were a top 10 finish and 4 of them were European qualification. The 10 seasons and 7 managers combined since then doesn't even come close and have mostly been atrocious.

Moyes is currently doing an even better job at West Ham and has already won you a European Trophy. My advice is stop k'in whining and enjoy what you have got because you are not Barcelona and it can soon get a lot worse. You only have to look at Everton to see how bad things can get.

Pretty much yes-ish
But
When your fans and / or owners get too fed up and think they can get somebody better and sack him - you won't be any better off...you'll probably be worse.

I'm not having a go at the OP specifically here, but I feel fans have become a bit entitled over the years. Social media and endless conversation topics for the conveyor belt of pundits all vying for the same bit of air.

"But we want to be entertained!" maybe go to a concert instead, then. Football is a results business.

How many times have we seen a manager with a fancy name and a slightly different 'pioneering' perspective of how the game should be played, only to fail to live up to expectations?

Style of football mate. The West Ham way.

We had the same lot with Dyche - long ball Brexit dinosaur tactics.

But some managers fit the club.

He took us as far as he could, which in fairness was pretty far from where he found us.

That 5th-7th slot became the norm and as such expectations were raised over a period of years.

The problem was that Moyes was very content to sit pressed up against the glass ceiling.

We all wanted to make the next step and the cautious Moyes approach became something most of us wanted to cast off by the end.

But also, be careful what you wish for. We’ve largely been swimming in the toilet since he left.
Would love to be in that position now. We have gotten worse manager by manager since then.

Time was I’d’ve steadfastly refused to have Moyes back at Goodison - so I was very surprised to recently realise that I’d be happy to see him back.

I honestly do not know what West Ham fans want from him. He’s given them stability, kept them up and won a European trophy. He can be too cautious at times, but ‘kinell, the fella deserves way more respect and gratitude than some of your fans are showing him.

If you jib him, I guarantee you’ll drop like a stone.

If Moyes left West Ham, I'd be convinced they would be worse off for it. See how entertained you are after a few lower half finishes.
This. Honestly don't know why West Ham fans think they have the budget to overcome the Sky 6 or are a big enough club to overcome the blatent match fixing that keeps the sky 6 at the top.

I say this as someone who doesn't particularly like Moyes but he is probably the best manager outside the top 6 at this point. At some point when the money runs out Villa will come crashing back down (aka when the league make sure they don't get CL and FFP makes sure they can't spend to get it) and Emery will get found out. Howe will be gone by the end of the season.

The system is what is holding West Ham back, not Moyes.

I think he's even improved since joining West Ham from when he was at everton. We never used to win away to the old 'big 4' but now hasn't he just won at Arsenal and you beat Spurs away too this season.

I honestly am a bit gobsmacked when I hear West Ham fans on talksport complaining. I genuinely don't think with your budget and size of club you could be doing any better from a consistency point of view. West Ham fans are arguing that they have players like Kudus and Paqueta and feel the shackles should be let off but it just won't work. The rest of your team still isn't good enough to play how you want to play and you'll move down the table fast.

Its like when Martinez took over from Moyes he changed the style and despite a positive first season. After that when his style took over he had us getting worse and worse and that was with better players than you have now. The likes of Lukaku and Baines.

So my advice would be keep Moyes and keep winning more than losing and have regular European football and slowly build. Or get someone else and go back to what you were before him and become a yoyo club.
This.^
Now this
@Somerset Hammer - you're West Ham mate...not that we're anything too special now either...but you got lucky twice, once for being in London and twice being given a new ground.*

*btw, how many would go back to Upton Park tomorrow??

Back in the 00s, 'It' was still doable - just, from outside the then top 4. But not with Moyes and never with Kenwright...and the least said about Moshiri the better.

You've peaked mate, if you stay even near that peak (see Brentford; and get ready to wave them goodbye in a season or two) - with or without Moyes - count yourselves lucky
