Darron Gibson

He has played 118 games since 2005 according to his Wiki page. Works out about 13 games a season.
That's a wonderful example of how stats can be misleading though.
His injury record has been poor for us, but at united he was for the most part fine, and only missed four games due to a viral infection.
Instead, for the most part at United it was due to him not being good enough to start in their ultra competitive midfield and the time it took to break into the first team as a midfielder.
However since signing Darron has missed 59 games due to injury and played in 43. Been dreadfully unlucky with injuries.

Personally, I believe a significant aspect of a players fitness is directly linked to their character. If you are inclined to work hard, eat well and have a strong desire to impress then remaining fit is much easier, or at least likely. If you're not as dedicated or motivated, it's much easier to pick up an injury and can take longer to recover.

It's obviously not jus that simplistic; however I do believe that Gibson has been in the past in the latter category: tweeting pictures of him out boozing etc on more than one occasion gives an inclination to this.

They're humans and I know they'll have a drink from time to time, but what you're happy to show in the public realm is normally a fraction of what happens in private. If he's confident showing he drinks regularly, he probably does drink regularly in private. What does it suggest about other aspects of his fitness? A fair few people have mentioned over the years that he's not the most enthusiastic individual in training.

Basically, he has the potential to be a reasonably good player but I fear he's not got the correct mentality to make good on that pontential.

Knee injuries can happen to any player any time.

This idea that Gibson is getting bladdered regularly is false.
You are quite right, they can.

However, as I mentioned it can have a detrimental effect on their overall fitness - that includes recovery and how susceptible you can be to injury.

The odd beer doesn't have an issue, nor did I say he was getting bladdered, but regular drinking, not eating well and poor attitude to training can effect you. All the above, I'm confident could be associated to Gibson.

I'm sure the manager will address these concerns publicly if this is the general thoughts of people.

I suspect Martinez would have sold him last summer if he was like what you describe. The manager isn't stupid.

Plus as a qualified physio Martinez would have less tolerance for it. Him being the manager who wants players to stay at finich farm during the week !

We'll agree to disagree, but from what I've seen and know Im confident that Martinez has 'discussed' the matters with him.

Rooney has the same problems; too much drinking and smoking in the Orient in Speke has played a part in his decline.

I agree with ijjy on this re. the last page, and that's only a yellow anyway. Delph did a similar one last weekend and escaped without a booking.

We should have just decimated Fabregas last week.

It's like a new signing!

True. Phenomenal.

"He's ready to come back and make an impact here now," the Toffees chief told evertontv. "It was important for Darron to play in a game situation, in a competitive game.

"Even though it was a friendly, when you play at international level, every action matters and I was very, very pleased.

"I thought the way he played, the way he got on the ball, it was really encouraging.

"He brought great forward passing and I thought everything that was good about Republic of Ireland on the ball, he was involved with.

"He looked like someone who is fully fit, strong and ready to kick on again. That was a real positive of him joining up with the Republic of Ireland this week.

"Now he's fully fit, he's ready to perform. It's just about making sure we give him the right time to get that match fitness that you need, especially in the Premier League where the transition of the game is so fast."
