Depends mate!

If he snaps Gerrard like that in the derby I'll be more than ok with it.

.....hopefully we're better than that. Gerrard like a quarterback these days, need to snap around his ankles as soon as he has the ball and that could be the responsibility for our No10. I understand where you coming from, though.

We need a leg breaker.

Unleash Gibson and Besic.

Would it make the most sense to have Gibson/McCarthy and Besic/Barry as the pairings? It seems better that way because it has more balance ... but I can't argue that McCarthy and Barry is the obvious first choice and leaving one of them out for a big game doesn't feel right.

.....Southampton!!!!Mmmmmmm, you're not John McGrath are you?

Leg breakers needed ? two strong central defenders on form may help more IMO!

Not sure my warped sense of humour is going down well with a couple of GOT's elder statesmen here!

Essentially I think we're too nice. I like J-Mac and Gar Bar as much as the next man but they're not exactly hard.

Eggs, no idea who John McGrath is.

.....really? McGrath was a legendary hard man Centre Back for the saints. Looked like he'd been chisled out, like Desperate Dan. Hitched his shorts up really high revealing tree trunk legs. Run a mile just looking at him. Those were the days.

Unfortunately ,I think, football has become a non contact sport almost.
"Chopper" Harris, Norman Hunter and others of that ilk would not survive in premiership football playing as they did.
It is the reason that Besic has hardly been seen in the first team. The backroom staff are taking his game apart and putting it back to gether so that we will get a slightly different player, but a player that won't get booked or sent off every game.

Absolutely crazy that people are saying we should get rid, the bloke is a fantastic player. His ball distribution is one of the best in the league, certainly the best in our squad. His injury record isn't even that bad, he just started last season with a niggling injury and shortly after getting fit off that he got a another very bad, completely different injury on international duty. Was he ever injured under Moyes? Not really.

The lad will have a massive role this season, as soon as he gets back to top form people will feel stupid for ever suggesting that we sell him.

I think to say non-contact is over doing it but it definitely has it's inconsistencies that need to be addressed, e.g. corners are a free for all yet if a defender is brushed in the back in his own half and goes down it's a foul. For the most part though I think football is better of for it, I'd much rather watch good football than tony pulis Stoke vs Wimbledon. If the Referees start becoming more lenient then more long ball football will start to become more successfull and that just means bigger less talented footballers will get games over intelligent footballers.

Thing is, the threshold for what constitutes a foul challenge is now so low that it has encouraged diving. This breaks up the momentum of the game and so reduces its entertainment value.
