Lets hope he gets a good run free from injury...he looked the business last night when he came on and will give us a bit of steel and another passing dimension.

I am going to take this that they wont play him in the 3 games in a week thing, probably a bit on wed and the game next sat, just to be on the safe side

New ads starring Gibson went up for the Celta Vigo game today on the official site. Then he's not in the squad for today's game against Porto. Hope it's not bad news.

Martinez was just getting him back last season then he went on international duty and the numpty Ireland manager plays him twice in 4 days. Out for the season

Martinez is a fully qualified physio. He ain't gonna play gibbo Sunday, weds and Saturday and risk losing him again.

Gonna have an important part to play this season Gibson.

4 comps require a decent squad. Xmas alone seen us struggling last season

Yes. This is why not worried. He's got this.

That's a bit harsh, really. I doubt U21 manager Noel King held the power in that decision. More than likely Gibson and/or the club were happy for him to get the minutes. Martinez was even in Dublin to see how Gibson and McCarthy played together.

We were top of the PL injury table for most of the season. At one stage I think we had 11 or 12 players unavailable. Like you say, Martinez knows his stuff, so hopefully this improves this season.

Obviously if Martinez has targeted Wednesday and/or Sunday for Gibson, then great. It's certainly better to be cautious than to risk a setback.

Agree the squad is important. 4 good cms are needed for any decent squad. As great as McCarthy and Barry were last season, towards the end of it they looked shattered/jaded at times. It'll be interesting to see how the different partnerships evolve.

Martinez has said he's fit. He just can't get in the side right now.
Still seems somewhat strange, surely he should be putting us top of his priorities at the moment before throwing himself back into international fixtures. Full match fitness only comes with... playing matches.
