Maybe its a compliment to what Barry and McCarthy are doing in the midfield, but I dont even miss Gibson.
I had to be reminded he was injured even.

See what you saying, but I'd much rather Gibson was fit, we started to look a little jaded over Xmas, and having Gibbo as an option on the bench or in rotation would have been a big help, couple of games where McCarthy went of the boil, and also Osman playing CM.

Gibson is an average player in the grand scheme of things. He is an all round midfielder but in all reality isnt that spectacular.

But saying that Barry isnt, nor was Carsley etc I think he plays an important part in the team because as long as he does his one role, the rest of the midfield can do theirs. He has proven to be good at doing his 'one job' so there should always be a place in the asquad for him when he isnt horizontal.

Our best CM when fit IMO.

Nah just kidding, I knew what you meant.

No doubt Gibson is a decent player for us but he hasn't been missed. The way RM has us playing we are no longer heavily dependent on any one player. With Moyes (only an observation) if a player was out with injury or the likes then he was missed big time and the team was only half effective as it should be. Could you imagine if Jags, Distin, Howard and Baines were missing from the team last season? We would of fell apart at the seams, yet the question is why haven't we this season. Is it because the replacements are brilliant or do you think its the way RM has his team playing with flexibility and possession based football rather than the rigid way we used to play.

Short memories if you can't remember how good Gibson was for us.

Needs to stop getting injured though... Sort himself out.

I'd say its the short memory that would tell you he wasnt that good for us, as it was all pretty recent. For me he was poor to okay since before last Xmas. There was no passing forward of any great quality. Decent coverage of the defence but Gibbo at his best should offer more than that.

I think Gibbos case is like Kev where they are still dining out on their good period for us when in reality the performances have dropped and their impact on games is not the same.

But as I said earlier he was looking good in preseason, so lets see how he does under Bobby, but for me he was pretty poor for the second half of last season.

I'd rather have Barry sitting in front of the defense. I'd rather have McCarthy playing the all around role.

Gibson would provide the squad with some badly needed depth, however.

He'll be excellent to have as a backup, he was a breath of fresh air when he came, a real professional. He is only 26, so we've still got to get the best out of him yet, and Barry, McCarthy and Gibson give us real options next season (if Barry stays that is). I find it hard to actually be excited for his return though, and I apologise for being pessimistic, but he's missed quite a few games for us, which is always worrying, but he's a useful player, and i hope he knuckles down, and comes back stronger next season.

A fit Gibson would give us greater depth in the squad. It would allow the manager to seamlessly rotate his central midfield trio of Gibson/Barry/McCarthy allowing him to give each of them an occasional rest.

I think that a lot of people do not understand the concept of having a squad to pick from.....and Gibson is a really good player and would greatly enhance our team.
He does a huge amount of covering in front of the back four,is always ready to take a pass and his passing helps to speed up the tempo of our game.

The reason why our form trailed off in the second half of last season was the absence of Gibson and Mirallas. When fit (and I know that is an issue for him) Gibbo is a pivotal player for the squad.

The one thing with Barry, he is a bit hot headed, and is worth a few red cards a season.

He can dive in alot, and does go charging at poeple.

Gibson is more controlled with all of this.

To be honest I think Barry's more cynical than anything, he always does the snidey little challenges to halt the opposition's momentum which is where I reckon he picks up most of his cards. As for Gibson though I hope he can come back as soon as possible because a fit Gibson would be worth his weight in gold right now to cover McCarthy and Barry if they get injured/suspended and prevent Osman being on of the deep lying midfielder. It's a shame his body isn't up to the task of playing prolonged periods of consistent football really.

Barry has had 1 red card in the past 7 seasons. He tallies up the yellows, however.
