Gibson is the best passer of a ball at the club. He always looks forward instead of backwards and sideways like most of the midfielders we've had in the past. Can't wait until he's back and can give us another option.

I like Gibbo. Possesses a good passing brain that will be right up Martinez' street.

I just hope Bobby can get him fit and playing regular.

This what I'm saying about his performances since before last Xmas. We know he can pass forward with great range and accuracy but for me that was totally absent from his game. He was either playing it safe or the accuracy was totally off. I don't think he offered us very much going forward really in the second half of last season, and I'm big fan of his.

Barry is a total professional....and that includes "professional" fouls. He knows what he is doing everytime I think. Cant believe his red card stats are so low!

I think his "professionalism" / the way he carries himself may have something to do with this. He doesn't come off as a snide, and even his terrible challenges aren't typically dangerous, which I think might be why ref's are reluctant to show him red.

As to Gibson, can't wait to get him back. I'm hoping for a lengthy cup run this season, and depth will be crucial when competing on two fronts

Can't believe there's people saying don't offer him another contract. Barry is on loan and there's no guarantee that he'll stay (i think he will though). Personally i'm really looking forward to him getting back fit.

I know its just a small thing but Gibbo doesnt seem as connected to the club as other members of the squad. His twitter is full of nonsense and he barely mentions the club.

I noticed over the hols a tweet from Aguero saying happy new year and showing him working out and basically giving a message to the fans that he is busting his balls to get back. On the flip side Gibbo is tweeting about some random crap and having "banter". I wouldnt be the first to question his general attitude, even if I probably read to much into all that.

As an Irish Everton fan I want him more than most to fulfill that potential, as you cannot train to be as good a passer as he can be, thats a natural ability.

...I'm a fan of Gibson, thought he looked supreme at times. It'd be great if we had him, Barry and McCarthy to pick from next season.

And this also happened to be the time Moyes finally moved Neville out of midfield (because he was forced to)... but I'm sure that's just a coincidence too.

If you're going to be a pedant at least do so thoroughly

I don't think Brennan is being pedantic. He's spot on. We beat the mancs at Wembley without Arteta (our best player at the time) whilst in a good run of form. We were in good form when Baines (again, our best player at the time) was injured. I also remember us coping admirably and showing decent form when we had no recognised strikers fit and were forced to rely on Cahill and Fellaini. There's probably numerous other examples...
