Darron Gibson

Very true mate. It's all about BLEND in centre midfield. That doesn't necessarily equate to packing into it your best two players in that role.

Yeah, I'm totally with this

When it seemed we had next to no money, but we were reported to be buying Gibson for £2.5m or even £4m I think it was at one stage, I was totally against it. It seemed the only position we didn't necessarily need to strengthen.

However, as it turns out for 500k, its a very good buy. Fellaini could just be on a good run of form, but I'm 99.64987% sure Gibson has contributed to that

Don't like him.

He's the first I'd replace on FM for example, don't get me wrong, but in real life (which I think is more important, maybe) he's doing an underrated job in my opinion and is helping make things tick in his own quiet way.

I like him more and more. He is no complete midfield general yet, but he has the goods that are needed to fill that kind of role.

Arguably, him and Felli have many similarities - High work rate, battle a lot for the ball, get forward occasionally but prefer breaking up play and passing diagonally. And while Felli is the best header and the focal point for aerial balls, Gibson is an able shooter and poses the most attacking threat when the ball is on the ground.

Considering his age, Gibson still has more to prove. He seems a good, honest lad that just wants to make it in the game, which i consider agreeable with the Everton philosophy.

he was ineffective against Chelsea and started to tire really badly before he was taken off but i do think he is a decent central midfielder and can get better the fitter he gets.

Whoever said hes not a match winner is wrong in my opinion- with that peg on him he can smash them in from no where.

Everybody is winging about his passing, but i saw a stat that said evertons average passing rate in a game was 78%, and Gibsons was.. guess what, 78%.

Good player, he's bringing out the best of Fellaini because he knows where to be when Fellaini trots off somewhere. He usually only mis places forward passes too, the ones where it essentially really needs to be a better pass but i've no doubt that he'll learn.

I think he is going to come on, he can improve greatly and i would expect him to in the time ahead, he could turn into a quite effective goal scoring midfeilder, the lad needs games to develop and acheive consistencey though.

My first thought was that we had just signed a very average Premiership player.
Maybe we have.

However, when I look at the age of our squad, we have very few players who are in, or approaching their prime.
At 26, I think it is a good deal and he will be around for a few years, seeing in the next generation and waving goodbye to some of the over 30's.

He has a great shot .he played very little for man u so not match fit yet. However I think his confidence was also low when he came here.give him a preseason and I think he will be much better.but for 500k he is a bargain

Echo-ing most of the sentiment on here i think hes pretty good for 500k. any more than that and i'd be a bit annoyed. he does play the quiet man role very well, just does his job , is nothing spectacular. i do think Felli has more room to operate because of himthough. whilst the lad puts a honest shift for the team hes ok in my books.

I don't really agree with this whole "he lets Fellaini operate" argument. It doesn't really make any sense. Fellaini is a defensive midfielder, not a playmaker. Fellaini operates in front of our back four so what you're saying then, if you say Darron gives him room to operate, is that Darron either gets up the pitch or that he does [Poor language removed] all and it's basically like he's not there. And considering I've seen him cross the halfway line about once, it can't be the former.

I think next to a defensive mid you want a playmaker, or if that's not possible, then a driving box-to-box midfielder like Rodders. So far Gibson doesn't look like either, or a defensive midfielder. He's just an... erm... presence.

For £500K it's fine enough business but he's not the answer to anything. He's like Rodwell in that he hasn't shown enough of one particular quality to justify a starting spot in any role, but unlike Rodders he's 24.
