Cav and Kittel eliminated for being over the cut-off. Cav an hour back so no chance and I think Kittel was more like 43 mins when the cut off was 37. Writings been on the wall for Cav as we discussed, he only just made it yesterday - not his Tour.

He's only 33 so it's not like he's completely past it, I think he could still win stages, but if he can't ride consistently he'll never build the form he needs.

lollollol

I remember watching him struggle to beat an amateur at the British champs around Pendle. He was blowing out if his arse.

the heats on froome... Let's move onto our next mountain goat. Its beyond laughable now

I suppose predictable

The Sky sports director, Nicolas Portal, said: “Froome is number one. I think everything worked pretty well. When the race ends like this the opportunities open. You are not changing the plan, you are adapting.”

Pressed further on who was Sky’s leader, Portal grew exasperated. “Guys, I’ve spent 20 minutes explaining this,” he said. “Froome is leader. He’s won six Grand Tours.”

All puts Sky in a fantastic position ahead of tomorrow’s stage to Alpe d’Huez

Of course, there's this on the route as well today.

Sacred ground today - Col de la Madeleine, Croix de fer, Alpe D'Huez.

The greatest sporting arena of all time - any sport? Quite possibly. Should be a great day's racing in any case.

I will say though that I wouldn't be that upset if they didn't ride up the Alpe. It just seems to be a magnet for drunken oafs these days who want to do nothing but abuse the riders and spoil the race.

Amid the chaos of racing, it needs to be said that Team Sky were afforded an especially unsavoury welcoming committee on the upper slopes of Alpe d'Huez this afternoon which nobody wants to see - except perhaps race sponsors ASO and the French press who have really gone out of their way to encourage such nonsense.

As stage winner GeraintThomas crossed the line there were audible boos from the crowds while the he also had to contend with similar on the winners' podium. Extremely disappointing.

Even more worrying, as the above post, was the sight of a cycling 'fan' appearing to push defending champion Froome while in pursuit of Bardet.

I would be surprised if we don't hear more of this, such a shame - threatening to ruin their own event

It was obvious it was going to happen. The UCI have turned it into a sham with the Froome verdict and the fact it was done days before it started. I amazed someone hasn't done him properly. He shouldn't have been in the race. Only Sky and the UCI wanted him there.

And why wasn't Nibali given the same time as the rest? He hit a motor bike... pretty sure Froome was given the same time 2 years ago for similar

Not sure it will make much difference sadly. Hasn't he fractured a few ribs as a result of the crash?
