Another cracker.

Was travelling today so missed it live - bit excessive that stage IMHO. Good to see some real Classics bike racing in a GT, but not at the expense of skittling the field. Too many nervous riders who can't go full gas on the pave and chaos insues.
Crashing your bike into the cobbles fking hurts - not at the time because in that environment they'll basically bounce up with the adrenaline, but they'll be some battered and bruised bodies tonight.

They didn't use the harshest cobbles from PR either.

Bit of a poor stage this. No one really wanting to do anything. Looks like Uran is the only GC rider to be dropped, but he was largely out of the equation after the cobbles anyway. I don't think the Sky train were going that fast that the others couldn't have tried something. GvA will extend his lead, so will be in yellow for a bit longer.

Hopefully Thomas is allowed to race froome, would open it up for the other teams to attack team Murdoch as well

To be fair, Movistar have three of the best climbers in the world, all in contention, plus top domestiques like Marc Soler. It's high time they tried to do something as traditionally they're way too conservative. I sometimes wonder if that's purely down to them being Valverde's team, and he's renowned for sitting in and sprinting only when the line is within sight.

Either way, them, Astana, FDJ, Bahrain et al need to up their game.

Awesome stage that, absolute essence of the Tour when they start throwing digs left and right in the high mountains. Sad that Nieve couldn't hold on - thought he had it but I guess he was empty in that last k, but Thomas showed his class there. Pretty much rode the elite of GT cycling off his wheel.

There will be questions on the team hierarchy again but today felt like the day the real tour began. Lots of serious contenders well positioned in the GC and today just the start but good to see Thomas and Froome leading the way for sky.
