TT trial start today.

Maybe Yates' year.

He's the favourite, but all of the main players have question marks against them, which should make for a good race.
I'd like to see Jai Hindley do well after being pipped for it last year. Tao Geoghegan Hart should have defended his title, btw. And I cant see him being team leader in the Tour.

Did the review of the stage one TT the other day - mad from Ganna.

In other news, got a cadence monitor arriving today (was only £30). Power meter/carbon wheelset the next aim :D - they're a bit more than £30 :D

If anybody has power metres for their outdoor riding, would love some reccomendations. Ideally when the time comes I don't wanna be spending over £500, but will do so if the quality is worth it

You'll be time-trialling next.
I have assioma pedals for power - they are excellent, very reliable, and pedals are good to easily switch between bikes. They're an investment though - think £600 when I got them.
I think the cheapest PM that is good would be a single-sided crank like a 4iii or a stages. These were absolutely plagued with accuracy / reliability problems in the early years but I think are solid now - have you seen DCrainmaker's webpage? He is the consumer champion of power meters and gps units, basically. Goes to town on them with detailed reviews and has no affiliations.

Most people are not completely balanced L/R but close enough - I'm typically 52/48. So doubling one side is fine to train off (plus consistency is far more important than precise accuracy, unless you're zwift racing!)

Hhaah, god you never know at this rate. Honestly, I just really get into specific training, not even for races, but just my self-improvement. I much prefer that when I have a target - even going into the gym now, it's so much better having specific goals to work on for strengthening for the bike, so I feel more focused.

So I'm really enjoying it, while also just keeping the fun of being able to just go on a ride too. I use Zwift for workouts, and then my outdoor rides for steadier sessions (time-dependent, I like to fit in efforts too on most rides). Have also started using my hybrid again for gravel/off-roading. Went on what I planned to be a steady one yesterday and it ended up being 25k of pretty hard technical work with all the mud, but great fun. Back on flats on that though so will need to invest in some more pedals/MTB cleats (or a gravel bike :D).

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely look at that site.

It's nothing major as I can use my HR zones for now and I think that's a decent enough way for training. It'll just be useful down the line for me. There's no point stopping now, I'm well and truly hooked :D

The PM ended up being a bit of an indulgence for me as I don't train outside in any structured way. And the TTs I do are the short distances where riding to power is not as helpful as I thought it might be. Prob a different story if you're mainly riding on the road.

I did a pretty hard race yesterday in the midlands - 3 hr cyclocross with a lot of very heavy mud stretches. Did OK but was riding like I'd had a skinful of ale at times - you often have little mini-crashes in these sort of races where you lose the front wheel, but I must have had four proper offs on top of that. Rode a very technical section clean, thought I was van Aert, then went off a simple farm track over the bars into a drainage ditch! Sore ribs today.

Yesterday's stage of the giro was crazy. Later parts of the race through all those coastal holiday towns. At least 3 riders injured and out of the race.
Nice sprint by Cadel Ewan for the win.

Nice look at Ganna's TT bike here. Reckon that would be absolute death on wheels for most people riding that - it's unusual to have the contact point on the bars so far forward. He's steering the bike from a position way out in front and well over the front wheel.

Lol at having a TT bike as your only ride. Sounds like he's not thinking with the big head, though, so these things happen.

He's a good, longtime friend, but he's an absolute nut job. After I started riding I realized cycling (especially compared to running) is a very high maintenance activity and so it must naturally attract high maintenance personalities. And I immediately realized he'd love it if he ever got into it.

Any experience/thoughts on the Garmin Edge products? I know there are multiple products out there for computers, but I'm a Garmin fanboy due to prior experience, plus I have a Garmin watch and would enjoy compatibility.

I use an 810 (discontinued now) and know quite a few other garmin edge users. Consensus I would say is hardware v good, software garbage by and large. Maybe better in recent years now they have a serious competitor with wahoo.

I was going to update recently, (but ended up getting a s/h 810 for niche uk mapping reaaons) and it was hard to choose between garmin and wahoo across the range. You'd bit go wrong with either.
