Good news!Bloody nice ride that mate! Been my rest week this week so just been keeping things steady. Hoping to get a 60k in at some point though.
Aye he's fine mate, it's not put him off.
Once you've got used to using the cleats it becomes weird not to use them! Though you can still fall![]()
I appreciate it's two bikes and stuff, but during the times when I was commuting I had an old bike (panniers, mud guards etc.) that I put mtb pedals on so it was easier to walk about in. That bike is now on the indoor trainer and used if the wife and I go away anywhere.Good news!
I am riding to school (7k) in trainers because cleats just seems like hassle and changing etc. Might change that one day but I know that's not the 'done' think.

Yeah, I mean hills in Britain are a bit meugh, but elsewhere, just breathtaking. I ride to be able to go places like this, and when you're spending an hour or so climbing up them on a bike it cleanses your soul like nothing else.My thinking with hills is that if I can make it last as little time as I possibly can without exhausting myself than that's what I go for. But obviously the views are all worth it.
You're a brave man going in the summer. ScorchioAll stunning. I am hoping to go cycling in Spain over the summer holidays covid permitting.
If I had space for a second bike, I would definitely have one with mtb pedals on.
You'll have to find some mountains to cool down a bit. Plenty of nice, quiet roads though. A lot of pros base themselves in Spain, whether in Girona, the Sierra Nevada or Andorra.Yeah, I mean hills in Britain are a bit meugh, but elsewhere, just breathtaking. Electric bikes are increasingly good as well if she wasn't quite as strong as you (or vice versa). The idea of rolling hills for an hour is daunting, but maybe if it's not after 3 prior hours of riding i could get used to it. still, need to make basic gains first before i try that. maybe something like that is in my future. after this weekend's event, the lovely Mrs Nigh (who traveled with me and did also for my marathons) told me she could see herself on a bike unlike any of the times she would come to road races with me--so maybe it's something we'll both learn to enjoy.
Cycling abroad is brilliant mate. Done two rides - Paris-Geneva and Milan-Monaco- both brilliant. September?October time when its a bit cooler. Those rolling hills etc are something to saviour.

Haha I rode to Salisbury in 34 degrees last summer and that was not the one. Nearly passed out! You're a brave man going in the summer. ScorchioYou'll have to find some mountains to cool down a bit. Obviously she'd have to be comfortable, but the roads around Girona were super quiet, especially once you're out of the town. Dan Craven has written a website about riding in the region with a number of loops (and gpx files)Haha I rode to Salisbury in 34 degrees last summer and that was not the one. Nearly passed out!
Girona was one place we mentioned. Need to up my fitness first.
My wife would love to cycle with me but has only one working eye so riding with traffic next to her is obviously terrifying. We do little safe trundles together with wide cycle lanes.
Great info. Thanks mateObviously she'd have to be comfortable, but the roads around Girona were super quiet, especially once you're out of the town. Dan Craven has written a website about riding in the region with a number of loops (and gpx files)

I wouldn't say that any of them are that tough. It's rolling more than anything. It's handy as there's an airport nearby and there are so many cyclists living there that I think there are half a dozen rental shops (obviously with organised trips if that's your thing). Relatively easy to get down to the beach from there if you wanted a nice day trip.
