Zwifters are a weird bunch like. And Esporters are a weird bunch too. Just go outside for your rides you utter dangers.

Takes me about an hour to get out into the countryside from central London, so a lot of my training is on the turbo, and Zwift is as good a way of passing the time as any. Did a bit of riding in the Pyrenees last week though, which was nice.

Tourmalet, nice.

Had a cool 500km from Friday to Sunday on an ultra race. Feel like somebody sat on my legs today.

My girlfriend just bought one of those fancy e-trainers but has used it precisely twice. I was planning to recoup some of the investment by using it in the worst of the weather but my new bike having discs means I have to buy a new adapter. For €50. Plus a subscription to Zwift and I'm not sure I'm that fussed.

As for passing the time... Turbo training is supposed to be miserable. It's character building.

Aye, I do in some way miss watching hour upon hour of old race footage. My Pantani knowledge has dropped considerably since using Zwift. A lot of the blokes on there seem to just like showing off how much money they've got/spent.

It's like those RS fans who put their TV setups on Twitter. The amount of utter weirdos showing off their two grand turbo trainer set up FFS. Stick your old bike on your trainer. Get a big fan and put a towel over your bars. Get some music on and stare at the wall for an hour whilst you do your intervals.

Zwift has the same problem as every other online game: Internet people.

People are generally a problem everywhere.
The world would be a wonderful place if it weren't for people.
Ruin everything.

It makes me beam with pride seeing this phrase being adopted in general vocabulary usage.
GOT at its finest lol

Since starting on GOT back in July, my use of scouse vernacular has increased exponentially. I thought that part of me was gone (having not lived in Liverpool for nearly 15 years) but the last few months have really brought it all flooding back.

Incidentally I was talking to a Belgian stand up at a theatre festival over here who had lived in Toxteth for a couple of years. I did a little dance when he said "jarg" in conversation.

As a proud Toxteth boy this warms my little heart ♡

These lads cant even stay off the juice when they're cycling in their homes

He cheated to 'unlock' a particular bike on zwift, which sounds like a stupid idea in the first place - surely everyone should be on the same virtual bike for a big e-competition.

Not a zwifter myself, stuck with trainerroad for a few years now - enjoy the simple format. I do like a hard interval sesh but only in small doses - hat is off to those who can train seriously and withstand the fatigue buildup of real training volume on top of work and life commitments, not easy.

As lame as zwift gamification often appears to be, I know quite a few who have gotten on it in recent years and all have become obviously stronger - so there must be something right about that training environment.

I actually sourced a turbo last week as its potentially less dull than post work laps around Richmond Park (London). Im not a huge fan of a turbo but needs must. How does zwift actually work? I take it's based on a cadence? Estimated power?

If you have a smart trainer, it takes the power reading from that via an Ant+ dongle/bluetooth, and uses that to power your avatar. You can then do workouts ala Trainer Road, or participate in group activities (group rides or races). Cadence isn't really a factor, although if you have a smart trainer then it will automatically try and change the resistance to 'replicate' whatever terrain you're on.

Does it have to be on a smart trainer though? I trialed it a long time ago (4/5 years) and manged to race using my cadence sensor and imputing my own stats. I guess it was far more crude back then with far fewer people with smart trainers.
