A thought just occurred to me... This wouldn't be play to get Trump back on Twitter before the next election? Is that tinfoil hat territory?

I agree that Musk isn't a good thing for the platform

I'm surprised more aren't angry at the people that sold it to him though

I mean, they could have just said "stuff your money you horrible man" and not sold it to him

If they had any real moral compass anyway

Even aside from that, we're in a war where misinformation has been weapinised. Should that be fine because it's free speech?
What about when mis information isn't misinformation? Everything is a blanket misinformation term these days but it's not always true on social media. Was it mis information when Facebook blocked scientists publishing their own research about covid last year? Or when they blocked research being published on mis information on social media?

I love how when negatives from things that affect left wing / liberal views are so important but negatives to a left wing view are dismissed.

Funny thing about Twitter is that if you don't follow anyone who you don't like the opinion of, you stay within your own echo chamber.

Yes mate, you just tell that to any high-profile woman on the platform.

The issue here is that once he starts targeting shareholders with crazy money you're into the whole thing hinging on basic greed.

Yes, those things are often misinformation. Scientific findings aren’t generally published on Facebook, they are usually peer-reviewed.

Is this true though?

I don’t follow anyone on Twitter whose opinions really get on my nerves. But I still seem to manage to see them almost every day, via tweets, promoted tweets, quote tweets, retweets, trending topics, general commentary.

Similarly with your first paragraph, whatever steps Facebook and Twitter supposedly took to suppress the flawed research into Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine, and the bogus claims made about those drugs, they didn’t really work, as those drugs and studies are as well known as any other, probably more so.

No the first part relates to actually peer reviewed research published on BMJ and was shared by the scientists themselves but then flagged by the fact checker anyway. Just shared another story in regards to another example , well an open letter directly from bmj relating to it.

It's the idea that anything not allowed on social media is mis information which maybe true in a lot of cases but not always. Hence the blanket terming of it, plenty of examples where it isn't. To be honest , Facebook alone for their fact checking is extremely unreliable at times. Instagram will also flag up pictures with them messages on as mis information.

I had thought Twitter , or social media in general has the same model. You friend or follow who you want and don't follow people you don't want, or block them. Been years myself since I used twitter, but generally speaking it is the definition of an echo chamber if you only follow accounts you agree with. If you use it for news etc then not so much.

I'm not familiar with the examples you give. Do please link us up.

You are very intelligent.

Good critical thinking.
