Madoff died broke in prison. Elon Musk is one of the richest men in the world because he creates value, electric cars and reusable rockets are so so different to the madoff ponzi scheme, to try and compare them because they are both confident men is just ridiculous.

Amazon didn't make any profit for like 20 years, does that make them an unsuccessful company?
It's perhaps worth noting that it wasn't until Amazon created AWS that they became profitable. Now it accounts for 60% of the company's profits.

“creates value” lol

Musk’s antics - especially the raising of ever more outlandish products (that truck, the roadster, hyperloop, that brain thing and now robots) - should be a huge red flag.

Another red flag should be Tesla banking on EV cars, which almost every other car company is making as well (so they’ll never be likely to get the market dominance their share price suggests they already have).

Amazon is a good comparison because they actually did invest and actually have produced something that really has changed the world. Musk hasn’t, and with Tesla at least isn’t likely to.

For another comparison look at Musk’s one genuine success (SpaceX), and again please note how different a company it is to his other ones (is likely to dominate its sector, has a clear market, a clear plan and recent events have made it more likely to succeed).
I agree not every idea he has is good, but the ones that work are amazing. TSLA cars are safer and faster than any other car.

He co founded paypal which revolutionized internet payments, TSLA basically started Everton boom, spaceX is engineering genius, starlink will bring high speed internet to everyone across the world and who knows what he will come up with next.

I think to compare him with Madoff is silly.

Volvo, Honda, Toyota and others are rated as safer than Tesla, meanwhile as best as I can tell Tesla don't have anything in the fastest 25 production cars.

Mad isn't it? Tesla sold about 900,000 cars last year, whereas Toyota sold nearly 11 million, yet bed wetters don't get all excited about the Toyoda family. Tesla have a P/E ratio at the moment of about 136, which must make it about the frothiest stock imaginable (for reference, Toyota trades off a P/E of about 10).

I think Toyota's open-source hydrogen tech has more potential than electric also.

This is just complete froth. He didn’t co-found PayPal, Tesla didn’t start Everton boom and whilst SpaceX is genius it is rocketry, so genius is sort of required.

As for “who knows what he will come up with next”, that’s the essence of Musk. He says something mad, mugs lap him up and give him money thinking they’ll coin it in soon. Years later it doesn’t happen but he’s on to the sixth or seventh mad thing by then with people (often the same people) having invested even more in the hope of coining it in.

Actually he might be more Chris Roberts than Madoff.

Paypal was the product of a merger between X.com (Elon Musk founded) and Confinity. Maybe 'co-found' is the wrong word but he was certainly involved in it.

Yes EV's were around before TSLA but the Tesla Roadster was the first highway legal all electric vehicle in the US

Nearly all entrepreneurs don't have a 100% success rate
