2018/19 Cuco Martina

So Baines is excused not being a great tackler, and Coleman excused for poor crossing, but Cuco isn't. The amount of vitriol addressed to some players by self appointed internet warriors beggars belief. Cuco has minimal talent in Premier League terms but always tried his very best for the team...a lot more than some of the so called 'stars'. Good luck to him wherever he goes.
It's not a particularly difficult concept as far as I can see. A player who has numerous good attributes can be forgiven for being poor at something, one who has no particular attributes to speak of doesn't get that luxury. It's a bit like having a chairman with a history of dreadful business decisions and being err... 'creative with the truth' being given a bit of leeway because he's a blue, when somebody who did the exact same things but had grown up a kopite would have been hounded out years ago.

I wish absolutely no harm to him and think he had a great attitude last season. He didn't pick himself, and he wasn't as bad as was made out in hindsight. That said, he's clearly nowhere near the standard we aspire to, and it'd be great to see him sent to a more suitable club so that he can play week in week out.

If only you could apply this same principle to Jagielka lol

Dear me

He was our last transfer by Koeman last summer on a free - that worried me as Koeman was spouting we need a left back a replacement for Lukaku - we got CUCU on a free - never the standard we needed - yet had some okish games out of position - defensively a bit naff - never the grade we needed - the beginning of the end for Koeman - Walsh should have gone too at that stage - I see Stoke are interested - about his level always a lower league player imo...............
Lets face it he could not get a regular start at Southampton like the Stek........

Fantastic attitude but as we all know he falls short as an Everton player.

Wish him the best of luck, he seemed like a top lad to have about the place

I don't think that he was anywhere near as bad as some portray. He was let down by his team mates a lot of the time i.e. playing Siggy wide-left gave him no defensive support whatsoever. In the Derby game he kept Sallah quiet apart from one moment when a weak tackle let him in to score - not many left backs in the Premier league did as well as that.

I'd keep him on as back up to Seamus and send Jon-Jo Kenny out for a full season on loan in the Championship. He'd learn a lot more on the pitch rather than watching from the bench - same applies to Lookman, DC-L, Kieran Dowell etc.

not many defenders where at fault for a salah goal is what you are saying? what use is it keeping someone quiet if they make a mistake for the goal anyway

Uh, Siggy had to give him support because he couldn’t mark anyone or frankly, do anything. What an absurd interpretation of what happened. Are you his cousin or something?

Kenny is a much better player, to loan him out would be nuts. If Coleman goes down we suddenly are incapable of replicating anything Silva wants to do. Last time I checked, the goal isn’t to win matches, not develop JonJoe Kenny.

No problem with the guy, but he’s not premier league standard.

Dear me
Cooks isn't on 80k a week and leading the team out as captain, so it's very different to me. I know it's not really different, but I think Jagielka should actually want to move on to prolong his career. @GwladysBlue agrees with me.

hate when people keep defending how crap he is by saying he played out of position, I mean technically yes he did but at the end of the day he's a full back playing full back, it's not like he was signed as a striker and got forced to play full back

playing a different position in the defence shouldn't affect his ability to defend, it should only affect his ability to say get a ball in as it's his wrong foot, he cannot defend so whether he plays left or right back he still can't do that

The scathing comments by some on here about him are totally out of order.
He was never supposed to be more than a back up option and because of the poor transfer activity of RK ended up playing out of position in the first team for several months... and did reasonably well.

I don't expect that he is on a huge wage and never seems to have caused a moments problem at the club.
I think he will play regularly at a Championship club but not at Premiership level.

It is important that players are still moved out of the club so that the manager can work with a reasonable sized squad, for that reason alone he needs to go as does Besic and Bolasie and maybe one or two others.
